4/5 Review: Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah Maclean

What a sweet, funny, romantic story! I absolutely loved this book, and it is definitely in my top 5. Had me hooked from the first scene. The title is very misleading, and almost had me turning in the other direction, so if it makes you groan, read the premise of the story and some of the reviews. In fact, a different title would do it so much justice.

I read this twice - I loved it that much. It was even better the second time around. I will admit that initially I felt there are some very implausible moments, including the original premise of the plot, but the second time I read it, it seemed less fairy-tale-ish. KEEPER SHELF!! The humor in this novel is unparalleled in anything I have ever read. It reminded me of my four favorite classice movies by Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn. He is incredibly handsome. She is not. She is pretty but not bomb-shell gorgeous. NO her beauty is deeper, lovelier, kinder, softer, funnier.

Couldn't have been funnier! Their friendship and concern for each other evolves over the week (this is the best part), and I was happy to read a romance that wasn't centered solely on hormones and pheromones (although there was a dose of that as well, but it was nicely done).

Ms. Maclean has given us a special keeper this time. It feels as if she fell in love with her characters as she wrote it and I fell in love with them, too, as I read it. There is so much affectionate understanding. Nothing is quite what you expect. You will love this book.
