4/5 Review: GROWL -by Kate Douglas, AC Arthur, Eve Langlais (Anthology)

Legal Wolf's Mate by Eve Langlais

Gavin is a high powered attorney who just so happens to be a werewolf. When his good friend and fellow were animal Broderick begs him to help a seemingly innocent women who's being accused of murder. When she shows up at Gavins office, he's unprepared for the instant connection he feels with her, something powerful pulls him towards her and he hasn't even said a word to her! Now he'll do anything to protect his new mate, and do anything to convince her to be his.

Megan is a timid young woman who has no idea what happened the night she was framed for murder, and her state appointed lawyer just wants her to take the deal she's being offered. Then she runs into Broderick, who kindly offers his friends help, free of charge thank god, and she feels maybe she'll be able to win her case.

As the days go on, and weirder and weirder things keep happening to Megan, she must put her life in the hands of Gavins. All she has to do is resist the temptation of his sexy body and even sexier alpha maleness. Shouldn't be too hard, she's had enough hard headed men in her life, she should be able to handle being alone with him... right??

So I loved the plot here, it has action, romance, pure sexiness and of course twist and turns! Gavin is so not ready to give up his single life, but I love how Eve doesn't make his character a complete love sick puppy when he sees Megan. He's determined to show her that he can be good for her, and that they'll be great together. He's a bit cock some times, but I think that plays into the whole wolf thing.

Megan character is a little harder to grasp, while the thoughts going through her head portray that of a scared young woman, occasionally her actions make you wonder if she's hiding something from Gavin...

The only thing that I didn't like about this story was one particular plot twist. It felt like the author just woke up one morning and decided to change the entire direction of the story. Even though it was still well written and I enjoyed it, I felt like I read 2 halfs of different books.

Feral Passions by Kate Douglas

Cherry is dragged to Feral passions, an all exclusive resort angled towards women, by her sister and sisters best friend. She only agrees so they don't loose their money on the package they bought after their other friend backed out. She definitely didn't expect to fall in love with the outdoors, the mountains, the freedom and the resorts special attractions, the wolves that live on the preservation that the resort sit on.

Tracker Jakes is the head of Feral Passions resort. He came up with the idea of a ladies only resort that exclusively accepts only 6 women at a time. His hope is that his pack will be able to find mates. The pack is getting lonely as none of them have been able to find mates in years. All the members of his pack help run the resort, some one is bound to find their mate... right?

Brad and Cain are two of the resorts "employees" they both feel an instant connection with Cherry, one they've been waiting for for a very long time. They have 1 week to convince her that they're meant to be.

I love Kates books, and this plot was pretty good, and the story well written. But I had a hard time connecting to Cherry's character. I felt like I was reading a story about a teenager, not an almost 30 year old woman. I understand she's pretty innocent, but still...

Aside from that I enjoyed the story and am interested to see if she's developing a new series from this.

The Alpha's Woman by A. C. Arthur

Kira is an alpha female who refuses to take any crap from anyone. When her own pack turns on her, including her own father, she refuses to stay with them any longer and runs. She'd rather be a lone wolf than stay with them a minute longer.

Blaez is the alpha of his own pack, and when he finds Kira walking alone in the woods so close to the full moon, he decides he has to save her... by kidnapping her... he locks her in their fortress with his small pack, and tells her he refuses to let her go for her own safety. A lone female wolf can be claimed by any wolf during the full moon phase. While she knows the risk she took, she demands he let her go and not worry about her, but something inside him tells him not to let her go.

This was by far my favorite story of the three! It was creative, and a different take on the werewolf lore. I loved the members of his pack, and would very much enjoy reading about each of them finding their mates. I will definitely be looking her up and adding her to my to be read list!

Review: Emma Brewster: Too Hot to Handle by Mary Moriarty

Emma Brewster comes from a long line of Brewster witches and she is not only a witch but a fire-starter witch. She is supposed to be able to control that element but so far she can’t control much of anything when she comes in contact with a handsome man.

           Now why is she always bumping into that new, handsome man who just so happens to be a Fire Fighter. She has taken to wearing colored contacts and sunglasses, even on cloudy days so her eyes don’t see him that clearly… but he always seems to be around. Boy is he hot… and oh drat there goes another fire cropping up!

           Cas O’Halloran came to this suppose sleepy town to get away from the big city life, except once he bumped into that beautiful redheaded woman on that rainy morning at the bagel shop, his life has been anything but normal or low keyed. His Chief said there have been more unexplained little fires since his arrival than anytime in the history of Cadwell Harbor. ‘This once sleepy, picturesque town is constantly on fire’. So Cas wants to find out why, but he also wants to find out why of all women he is attracted to this red-head who wears sunglasses on rainy, cloudy days and if that’s not bad enough, he feels electrified and alive when he touches her.

          Cadwell Harbor will never see a quiet Halloween again if Emma Brewster and Cas O’Halloran have anything to do with it. Nor will it be left standing if those two don’t settle down… one way or another

           I love it when I find a book that is so much better than I expect, and this one certainly was. Mary Moriarty writing style is so smooth and easy to read it just seems to flow. Emma is such an interesting character full of quirks, lust  and female insecurities that you feel like she's an old friend by the end of the story. I liked her, and really got a giggle out of Aunt Tiny and her gaggle of witches. They make for some great side characters, as did Kathy and Paul her best friends. Her instance attraction to Cas was great, I love that she did not draw out their disagreement.

           Vivid, larger than life characters give the story soul. I was drawn to the sparks between Emma and Cas and how similar their lives are. Emma, being independent and having no one of significance in her life and with Cas fighting  his true self and how they learned to make it work was a sweet aspect to the story. Emma's friends were more than supporting characters, they were fully realized and fully hilarious. I love Mary Moriarty's style of writing. She gives this book great depth and humor in her characters that leaves you warm and wanting more and shouting from the sidelines.

     There's nothing too heavy in this story, it's just a light and easy read. Her writing actually reminded me a lot of Mary Janice Davidson Undead Series. I am hoping this will be a new series, I am such a romantic that I make it a point to read every Paranormal Romance novel I can get my hands on and "Emma Brewster: Too Hot to Handle," is one of the many reasons why! This is such a fun story you owe it to yourself to read it!!! I started reading this book one night right before bedtime thinking I would read a few pages before turning in and guess what?  I couldn't stop reading long enough to put the book down! If you are an avid reader of Paranormal romance novels (like I am then this is one book you do not want to overlook! The romance is fast and hot and the plot is a real winner!

~ BBL Review ~

Born of Fury is the seventh book in Kenyon's League series. Born of Fury is full of danger, intrigue, humor...and love. Love between friends, between family and between one remarkable man and one remarkable woman. As one of Kenyon's many biggest fan, I've always been emotional whenever I read her books and BOF (Born of Fury) was not an exception. To me, when you really feel the emotion depicted from the book; when you shed tears, got angry at certain characters, or feel like you're part of the story, these are the kind of reading experiences you want when picking up a book. Granted, I do have my vanity moments where I judge a book by its cover, but usually I will always read the blurb to decide if that book is worth the money or not. Needless to say, I have not been disappointed by any of the League series releases.

As one of Sentella founding member, Dancer Hauk have had his shares of pain. However, once you're a Sentella, you have to learn to be strong, committed, fair, and loyal. With that said, Dancer definitely has all that but he also experienced much more...and much worse. On the flip side, he can be kind like...babysitting a group of teenagers. No matter what the situation may be, he is willing to struggle thru it because that is what he does, tolerates what he doesn't like because it makes the people he loves happy. And boy, Nyk really owes him for this one. But this is only one side of the coin. On the other, Dancer have experienced tortured, rejection, betrayal, scarred, and assassins trailing after him like bugs to kill him. When I read about Dancer's life story, I couldn't help but shed tears, because I couldn't image being in his shoes. On the other hand, Sumi is a girl with hard exterior and soft interior. She is compassionate, gentle, and loving. But due to difficult circumstances, she was forced to seek out Dancer and disposed of him as intructed. Knowing who the target is, Sumi is aware she may be committing suicide but the choice isn't up to her. Star-crossed lovers, both Dancer and Sumi have experienced betrayal and rejection. They may seem hard but under all that hard exterior, both wanted love and acceptance.

Although the book is about 700 pages long, it didn't feel like it was dragging on for me. The plot was well written and the development of characters and setting was nicely woven together. I was conflicted that the "I Love You" may have come too fast, but seeing the chemistry and the circumstances they were in, made it understandable and didn't felt as if they were rushed. I was convinced their feelings for each other were mutual and genuine by the time I finished the book. And like them, I do have insecurities so when I read the development of the relationship, I can definitely relate to it. So as all romance books, there is a happily ever after to Dance and Sumi's story. Fans of the League series will be very happy and thrill to see Dancer in action. Not only that, you will also see previous characters making appearances in Born of Fury, you can go goo goo ga ga over them like I did with Nyk and Kiara.

Overall, the book was greatly written with obvious extensive research. The suspense will tie you to your seat and the adrenaline will have your heart skips. What can I say, Sherrily Kenyon is a power house and I don't intend on skipping any of her League series releases!

SUN GOD SEEKS…SURROGATE? by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

(February 25, 2014; Forever Mass Market; $6.00)

Living in New York City, Penelope Trudeau has seen a lot of weird stuff-but nothing like the insane redhead who accosts her with a wild proposition. Penelope will get a million dollars if she has a baby with the strange woman's brother. With her mother dying from a mysterious disease, Penelope can use the money. Yet the terrified waitress is adamant that her womb and eggs are not for sale . . . until she meets her intended mate. He's impressively built, gorgeous, and red-hot, literally. He's a freaking immortal Sun God.

For thousands of years, Kinich (Nick to his friends) didn't believe in fraternizing with humans, so procreating with them is definitely a no-no. But after one sizzling encounter with the beautiful, passionate Penelope, Nick begins to think he was wrong . . . until he realizes meeting Penelope was just another one of his crazy sister's schemes at manipulation. But now that he has Penelope in his life, he can't let her go. Especially because doing so means throwing her into the hands of his dangerous enemies.

About Mimi Jean Pamfiloff:

Before taking up a permanent residence in the San Francisco Bay Area, Mimi spent time living near NYC (became a shopaholic), in Mexico City (developed a taste for very spicy food), and Arizona (now hates jumping chollas, but pines for sherbet sunsets). Her love of pre-Hispanic culture, big cities, and romance inspires her to write when she's not busy with kids, hubby, work, and life...or getting sucked into a juicy novel.

She hopes that someday leather pants for men will make a big comeback and that her writing might make you laugh when you need it most.

Excerpt

The next morning, I slowly stretched my deliciously sore body while luxuriating in the softness of the silky sheets beneath me and the warm, oh-so-very-naked, well-built man snuggled to my side.
My heart fluttered when I opened my eyes and found Nick sleeping next to me, his bed-play-mussed, golden brown hair sweeping to one side across the pristine white pillow. His heavenly eyes were closed, allowing me to study the golden lashes fanning out against his bronzed face, looking like tiny threads of caramelized sugar. He was a picture of exquisite male perfection.
I sighed and resisted the urge to kiss his exposed, chiseled chest—yes, yes, perfectly tanned like the rest of him (nude sunbather?)and stroke the perfectly formed swells of his biceps, one of which was attached to the arm draped over my waist.
Last night had been the most…the most…
I sprang from the bed in horror. “Oh crap!”
Nick’s eyes instantly popped open. A warm smile swept across his face. “Oh, you’re up.” His large frame stretched across the length of the extra-long, king-size bed.
I stared at him, wondering what to say; somehow screaming, “Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God!” didn’t seem appropriate.
Okay. Breathe, Penelope. Breathe. Just ask him what happened!
But I didn’t want to insult the guy. Because from the look of his delectable body, it had to have been the best night of my life.
That is…that is…if we did.
Of course you did! Look! Even your eggs are smoking a cigarette.
No! Demon crackers, no!
He rolled onto his side and propped his head up with his arm. “Why are you standing there, naked? Come back to bed.”
I glanced down my body. Oh crappity! I was naked.
I scrambled to the bathroom—a large, modern affair of stainless steel and glass—and grabbed a fluffy, white towel.
Oh shit. Oh shit. What was going on? I needed to go out there and ask him, point blank, what happened. Not with your iguana breath. You might melt the man’s face off.
As long as I get to keep his rockin’ body.
Pen!
I quickly found a bottle of mouthwash in the cabinet and swished. Then I checked the mirror and noticed I was wearing an odd-looking necklace with a large, shiny black stone dangling in the middle. Had he put it on me last night?
Darn it! Why couldn’t I remember what had happened?
Don’t be a child, Penelope. Just ask him.
Yes. That’s what I would do.
Again I glanced in the mirror. “Oh no,” I hissed at my reflection. My dark hair resembled a beehive, but without the symmetry. I ran my fingers through the mess a few times, but it was useless. I’d have to make a polite exit, go home, and ensure I looked hot enough on our next date to erase any memories of my current discombobulation. Is that even a word, Penelope? And do you really think he wants to date you? You’re a one-nighter for a guy like that.
Christ. What had I gotten myself into?
I took three quick breaths and opened the door. My heart ignited from the sight of him still propped up on one elbow and lying in bed with a smug, male smile stretched across his face. He looked frigging perfect, practically glowing. Dammit. So unfair!
“Everything okay?” he asked.
I smiled sheepishly. “Yeah, I needed to wrangle the tornado.” I pointed to my matted hair.
“You look sexy as hell.” He patted the empty space next to him. “Come here.”
Mischief sparkled in his eyes, and though I didn’t know him well, I knew what that look meant: Encore.
I held up my hands. “Whoa. I think we need to talk.”
His lower lip stuck out in a slight pout and his shimmering eyes seemed to glow against the backdrop of his toasty-almond-colored skin. Damn if he wasn’t the most irresistible man on the planet.
And he wanted me. Wow.
I slowly padded over to the bed. “Please don’t take this the wrong way, but what happened last night?”
He cocked one brow, “You don’t remember?”
I shook my head and gave him an apologetic smile. “I’m sure it was…great. The best toe curling sex ever—but…no, I don’t remember a thing.”
His smile melted away. “Bloody Christ! Neither do I.”

BBL Review:

I love some genuine laughs with my steamy romances and that's just what this series has given me and while I completely loved this book I'm sad to see the series end. I have to say I loved the way Ruxandra got so much play in this story as I was completely intrigued by her and needed to know more of her story. Anthony is an amazing hero and I love how upstanding he is, whether it is to make a safe place for humans and paranormal beings to interact or creating an even safer workplace for Claudia.

Claudia is such a strong heroine, flawed and real and so very human. I loved that there was the inclusion of a goddess in the story and I'm hoping that there may be a spin off series that comes out of this one. Without giving anything away I was very pleasantly surprised by what I felt was an ending with a delicious twist.  I know that I will definitely reread this book over and over again as I got to catch up with some of my favorite characters from past stories which I equally loved.

Review: Something About Harry by Dakota Cassidy

The Accidental Werewolf 2

He’s in a furry situation.

Accountant Harry Ralph Emerson has always been a by-the-numbers kind of guy. But when he finds himself trapped at work sprouting an obscene amount of hair, he knows his odds for maintaining normalcy are zero to none. After a frantic internet search, Harry goes through the OOPS—Out in the Open Paranormal Support—checklist and comes to a disheartening conclusion: He’s turning into a werewolf and he needs help ASAP.

She might be the only solution.

Werewolf Mara Flaherty has long carried a torch for Pack Cosmetics’ s sexy single accountant, even after her attempt to seduce him went down in flames. When her sister-in-law, Marty, shows up to handle Harry’s OOPS emergency, she tasks Mara with showing the hirsute hottie the ropes. But Mara knows Harry’s condition is a result of her lab experiment gone wrong—and the previously mild-mannered object of her affection is about to give her a piece of his mind…

Dakota Cassidy brings her trademark hilarious  sense of humor back again into another Accidental Series book. Mara and Harry, the heroine and hero of the story are both really great characters. Mara was super smart and logical, very loyal to her friends, and just a genuinely good all-around person (werewolf!). Harry didn’t fit the typical paranormal romance hero, that is he wasn’t an alpha male by any means- instead, he was sort of nerdy and grieving, recently the guardian of two young children due to the death of his sister and making a transition into a creature he had no clue existed. They are good for each other, and I loved how Mara and the rest of the crew formed relationships with the children. The characters other than Mara and Harry are great, for example, Nina, the kick ass vampire, Carl, the vegetarian zombie, and Guido, the incompetent Witch Doctor, they all round out the story wonderfully.Even though I had a blast reading The Accidental Werewolf 2 Something About Harry, I was really annoyed at Harry for not believing the ladies when they told him that he could not “fix the  problem. I mean, really? Why would they lie to him? So apart from that little annoyance, I laughed my way through the book and ended it with a happy sigh.

Who I would recommend this too: I would recommend this to anyone who likes to laugh. However, if you are sensitive to bad language probably not the book for you. you have to like the "off-beat" humor and not give a flip about language to enjoy. If you do however give these books a chance, I guarantee your cheeks will hurt from grinning. They are fantastic :)

Review: Kissing With Fangs by Ashlyn Chase

Book 3 of Flirting With Fangs series.

I love some genuine laughs with my steamy romances and that's just what this series has given me and while I completely loved this book I'm sad to see the series end. Susannah Sandlin Interview and Contest

It's that time again where we here at Bitten By Love Reviews got to interview another amazing author and YOU get to read it right here!! Read on for the exclusive interview of Susannah Sandlin and also an excerpt for Absolution (The Penton Legacy Part 2). Don't forget to scroll to the bottom to enter for your chance to win!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Susannah Sandlin is the author of paranorma romance set in the Deep South, where there are always things that go bump in the night. A journalist by day, Susannah grew up in Alabama reading the gothic novels of Susan
Howatch and the horror fantasy of Stephen King. (Um…it is fantasy, right? The combination of Howatch and King probably explains a lot. Currently a resident of Auburn, Alabama, Susannah has also lived in Illinois, Texas, California, and Louisiana.
1.When did you start writing and what was the first thing you wrote?
The first thing I remember writing was bad (really, really bad) poetry in high school. But I’ve been a journalist a long time writing for newspapers and magazines. I began writing my first novel in late 2008/early 2009.
2.Where do you get your ideas on what you write?
For the Penton Legacy paranormal romance series, and Absolution, I came up with the idea when I was sick with the H1N1 virus a few years ago—the CDC was slow getting vaccines out and it was spreading everywhere. So I wondered what would happen if a human vaccine made the blood of vaccinated humans poisonous to vampires. How would they survive? That’s the “what-if” behind this series.
3.What are some hobbies or things you are into that you do when not writing?
LOL. I have a full-time day job at a university, a daily book blog, and am writing two series, so I don’t have much time for hobbies anymore. Before my writing career took off, I used to do paper-pieced quilting. I also have a horrible, embarrassing penchant for reality television. *Hangs head in shame.*
4. Have you ever been so engrossed in writing a book that you have gone out in public in your pajamas or slippers without realizing it?
Ha! No, but I’ve worn my shirt inside-out. Okay, I might have done that two or three times. At some point during the day, I’d look down in horror, realize people had been too polite to say anything, and fix it.
5. Can you tell us about any challenges you met getting your first book published?
The publishing industry is in such flux right now that I think it’s hard for new authors to decide what route to take. I decided from the outset I wanted to try the traditional route, and was blessed to find a great agent. It’s not the fastest route to publication, but I don’t think shortcuts always pay off in the long run.
6.What has been the toughest criticism/best compliment given to you as an author?
I got an email last week from a reviewer fussing at me because my second urban fantasy book ended on what I thought was a very minor cliffhanger. That told me she’d gotten invested in these characters and that I’d succeeded in bringing them to life in a way that made someone care about them. I always fall in love with my characters, so hearing other people care about them is just awesome! Toughest criticism always comes from my alpha reader—she’s the only one I let read my first drafts because I know she’ll tell me what works and what’s crap. Sometimes in much more colorful language.
7. What is your favorite immortal?
Hm.  Well, right now it’s Mirren from Absolution, of course. But if I have to choose one from another book or series, it’s probably Vishous from the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Gotta love a man who can incinerate things with a touch, and he’s such a smartass.
8.Light or dark chocolate.
Dark, preferably with nuts.
9.Favorite color
Teal.
10.Tea or coffee
Coffee—looove coffee.
11. What is your current project and when is your next release?
Absolution, the second in my Penton Legacy series (each book can stand alone), comes out on October 9; the third book in the series, Omega, comes out in early February.
12. Do you have any message to the readers?
I love hearing from readers. You can always reach me at susannahsandlin@gmail.com!
~~~~~~~~~~EXCERPT~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

ABSOLUTION (The Penton Legacy, Book 2)
By Susannah Sandlin
Release date: October 9, 2012
Publisher: Montlake Romance

What was Matthias thinking, throwing a human woman in the cell with a vampire who’d been locked up and starved for over a month?
    Mirren waited on the bench, his back against the wall, his head down. Waited until Matthias climbed the steps, slammed the door, clicked the dead bolt home. Waited until he could get control of the hunger that had begun raging the second the woman stumbled down the stairway. She was unvaccinated, and he wanted nothing more than to take her, blood and body, until there was nothing left.
    If he did that, he’d be no better than the version of Mirren Kincaid he’d tried so hard to leave behind. He’d be the Slayer again. His hands could too easily remember the mindless sweep of the sword, the heavy fall of the battle-ax, the controlled back-thrust of a heavy firearm. If the cold darkness ever fell over him again, he feared he’d embrace it.
    “Mister, you awake?”
    Shit. She would have to be a talker. Mirren hated a talky woman. They always expected you to talk back.
    He raised his head slowly and caught his breath. She was young, maybe mid-twenties, and pretty in a rode-hard kind of way.
    “Your eyes are silver—I’ve seen enough vampires since I was kidnapped to know when your eyes get lighter, it means you’re hungry. But I’ve never seen any like yours. How long has it been since you ate? Umm…Make that how long since you drank?”
    If the stupid woman kept walking toward him, he wouldn’t be held responsible. “Stay where you are.” He narrowed his eyes at her, thinking. How could she help him without sending his need so far over the edge he lost control of it?
    She eeked when he shifted on the bench and turned his back toward her. “Untie me.”
    She stumbled a little when she reached the bench and sat hard. The woman was stoned out of her gourd. He could smell the drugs on her.
“Your wrists are all torn up. That has to hurt.” She sat on the bench behind him, and Mirren breathed in her scent with his eyes closed. Damn, but he wanted to feed so badly his muscles ached.
    She muttered as she worked, her drug-addled fingers slipping off the rope. “You’re so big that I’m surprised this rope could hold you. I should be able to…Let’s see here, it’s too dark. Man, this is funky rope.”
    “Stop yapping, start untying.” She had that broad, soft Southern accent he found sexy, but she used it way too much.
    “Yeah, yeah, okay.” She tugged harder on the ropes, burning his sensitive wrists with each pull. “Sorry, sorry. Why is it burning your skin like that?”
    Mirren growled and spoke through gritted teeth. “It’s laced with silver, and I’m a freaking vampire. Just untie me.” Damn, he had to get himself under control, or he’d scare the woman to death and she wouldn’t finish freeing his arms or feed him either one.
    “Well, you’ve got the funny eyes, but I don’t see any fangs.”
    God help him, he’d show her some fangs. “I said I was a vampire. Now finish untying me.”
    Mirren twisted his wrists and felt the rope give way—the woman had gotten it loose enough that he didn’t need her help.
    “But wait, how do I know you—”
    She gasped as Mirren pulled his wrists apart, popped the rope onto the cell floor, and shifted around to face her.
“Can you…?” She paused and swallowed hard, edging away from him on the bench. Mirren’s gaze dropped to her mouth. “Can you feed without killing me?”
  Mirren nodded slowly. Maybe. Maybe not.

The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires-by Molly Harper

 Molly Harper's quirky and often snarky sense of humor kept me laughing all of the way through The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires. If you have ever read any of Mary Janice Davidson's Betsy the Vampire books and loved them, then you should definitely go and pick up this book. I think that I enjoyed the relationship between Iris and her sister/ward Gigi the most. Molly did a fantastic job portraying the relationship in a way that allowed them to be the best of friends and still go through the trials and tribulations of parenthood. Of course, I also certainly enjoyed the sparks between Iris and her stray Vampire Cal as well.

After Iris' parents are killed in an accident she is guardian to her little sister Gigi. Iris makes the choice to bring Gigi to her, but when it becomes clear that things just aren't working out and her sister just is not adjusting to all of the changes being forced upon her: Iris decides to move back to Half-Moon Hollow, Kentucky, and into the house that they grew up in. Of course this means that Iris can no longer finish getting her degree and will have to choose a different line of work. That is when she came up with the concept for her Beeline agency. If you are a vampire in need of a personal assistant who can and will do your errands during daylight hours then Iris Scanlon is your woman. The only hard and fast rule/no-no she has is that her relationships with the vamps are strictly business. In fact she tries her damnedest to be in and out of the vamp's houses only when the sun is up. That hard and fast rule receives a shake when she stumbles over her new client, Cal, lying helpless on his kitchen floor after having been given poisoned blood. Weak and unable to fend for himself Cal persuades Iris, by offering her an abnormally large fee, to take him to her home to hide out until he can find out who is mucking with the faux blood supply and had tried to take him out of the picture. Along the way a relationship develops between Cal and Iris and now that hard and fast rule has crumbled; putting her life and Gigi's in dire straights.
