5/5 Review: HIS TO SEDUCE by Stacey Lynn

Camden and David are two peas in a pod, they both have secrets and both have suffered a tragic past. But after the pain, comes the pleasure. His to Seduce is the final installment in the Fireside series, it is compelling, amorous, and sexy as hell. There wasn’t a time while reading this book did I feel rushed, as a matter of fact, it piqued my interest and kept me up till 2:00 a.m. to finish the book. I didn’t want to put the book down and go to bed, it was because David and Camden made me cried when they bared their souls talking about the past. Their relationship has depths, very passionate, good chemistry, and nothing beat a heartfelt happy ending.

                                      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
David McGregor is a player, or at least that’s what he wants the world to think. He has a hard exterior and often wear a disgruntle mask. He doesn’t want anyone asking about his past, his family legacy, or where he’d been, and what he’s done. However, he’s tired of the loneliness so David decided to come home to be near his family and friends. Taking up bartending at his friend’s restaurant, David have no shortage of female companionship, until he laid eyes on “Miss Proper” Camden Reed.
Camden Reed is not the laid-back kind of girl, she is tightly wound, poor, and live within her means. She’s had a hard life, a hard worker, and definitely not some play-boy’s flavor of the month. But despite her constrain, she is drawn to David and stupidly attractive to him. But no matter how hard she tries to play it cool, to refuse him, the sexual tension between them is always there. It’s like little flickers waiting to turn into flame.
5/5 Review: FALLING FREE by Tina Wainscott
Falling Free is the 3rd in the Falling Fast series by Tina Wainscott - I will start by saying I have not read the previous installments and didn't flounder at all with this book. Falling Free is simply amazing!
We meet Grace - she has made it her life's goal to prove her father innocent and have his prison sentence overturned. She became a lawyer with that being her soul purpose in life. She is dealt a healthy blow when her father tells her to stop and that he is in fact guilty. This stuns her and she is left without a purpose.
Well, trying to figure out what she wants to do with herself, she meets Artemis Tanner - a drift car racer. When Tanner and Grace meet fireworks ensue. But can Tanner stay in one place long enough to win Grace's heart? Can Grace learn to trust him? This is the story of how they find themselves and each other.
Ms. Wainscott's writing is wonderful, her characters are strong and believable. If you are in the market for a great story - I strongly recommend Falling Free.
LEAVING YESTERDAY
Laurel Falls #1
Zoe Dawson
Releasing on February 9, 2016
Loveswept
If you love Susan Mallery, Kristan Higgins, or Rachel Gibson, don’t miss the start of this captivating small-town romance series! Laurel Falls, Montana, features spectacular mountain scenery—but it takes a rugged cowboy to convince one woman to slow down and enjoy the view.
Rafferty Hamilton doesn’t plan on putting down roots anytime soon. With her divorce final, the hotel heiress has left Manhattan behind to scout new locations for her family’s chain of resorts. Which is why it’s so frustrating to be stranded in Laurel Falls while a good-looking, slow-talking, Stetson-wearing mechanic takes his sweet time with her overheated coupe.
A decorated vet who paid his dues in Afghanistan, Trace Black can fix anything with an engine and get it revving—even Rafferty’s ridiculous sports car. He’s couldn’t say the same for the knockout driver, who looks like she’s never gripped a gear shaft in her life. Women like Rafferty don’t usually stick around in Laurel Falls, but Trace finds himself showing her everything his hometown has to offer before she cruises on down the road.
As the days pass, Rafferty finds herself charmed by the pace of life and the openhearted warmth of the residents. She’s even tempted to trust again—and it’s all thanks to Trace. He’s not the kind of guy she’s used to falling for, but he just might be the man she needs.
Rafferty Hamilton had been running as fast as she could, but now, figuratively and literally, she was going nowhere just as fast.
Spinning her wheels, even in beautiful Montana, was still spinning her wheels.
She was on the side of the road, still waiting for the tow truck after her new car stopped working and she’d been forced to coast to the shoulder, an acrid odor coming from the dashboard.
She’d been tooling along, thinking how she would be checking the divorced box from now on. No longer Mrs. Sean Duncan. For a year she’d gotten used to no more guaranteed dates at parties and shindigs, the opera, or the theater. No more museum jaunts or gallery openings. Now there was free time after work, meals eaten alone, and an empty side of the bed where she’d once snuggled up to her charming and popular husband.
Popular with the ladies.
The smack of betrayal—the wrenching pain that had dulled over the year adding punch, nonetheless—blindsided her, and tears welled.
The lying, cheating, shove-his-dick-into-any-woman-who-was-willing pig.
She sniffed. Okay, that made her feel so much better.
The beginning of the end had gone something like this.
“You cheated on me.”
“I need something more.”
She liked to think he whined like a petulant child. “Something more? What is missing, Sean?”
He’d stepped up to her then. “You. You’re missing. You don’t need me, Rafferty. That’s the bottom line. I might have an easy time with women, but I married you. You’re always so careful, holding back. Always doing some deal for your dad. You’re his closer, his hit woman. I’m not really sure where I fit into your life.”
“And that translates to infidelity instead of communication.”
He laughed harshly and looked away. “It translates into you not being present. We’re supposed to do this together, not live separate lives. I needed more. I went and found it.”
“Flinging your dick all over Manhattan is my fault. Typical.”
That confrontation conversation had happened almost a year ago. The papers were now signed. She was no longer connected to Sean.
Sean had accused her of being absent in both heart and home. She did travel a lot, and those trips had increased over the year since he’d moved out of their penthouse. She hadn’t kept the place after that.
She had gone over it in her head so many times since she’d separated from him, wondering how everything had gone wrong. How he could have so callously betrayed her.
She groaned over the soft notes of violins and French horns. Classical music played on her dashboard receiver in the sleek, new British sports car she’d bought on a whim when she’d left New York City five days ago on this impromptu, crazy road trip out west. No radio and the risk of a love song to remind her that she was no longer married.
Was there a reason she hadn’t opened up to him? A reason she traveled more?
These thoughts had consumed her as she’d whizzed down the highway. A small sign let her know she had been getting close to Laurel Falls. The name sounded pretty, probably one of those idyllic, little gems tucked away with its hominess and wholesomeness spilling over the edges of pretty tree-lined streets and apple-pie hospitality.
Before she’d left the roadside motel, she’d put the top down on the snazzy blue sports car, tying her long blond hair into a tight ponytail, leaving her long bangs to blow around her forehead. When there hadn’t been livestock trucks trundling along, the air had been brisk and smelled amazing.
In the wide-open spaces of Montana, the wind always seemed to be blowing—even sitting on the side of the road, her hair was never still. A clear backdrop of postcard-perfect mountains rising up around her, snow still on their towering peaks even in the middle of October when the temperature was a brisk forty-nine degrees. She couldn’t have seen those from the air.
Now, almost to her destination of Sanderson, Montana, she’d decided that she was out of breath from running.
I pushed my fingers through my hair. My heart was full of a feeling I’d had waiting for my grandmother to come out of her hip replacement surgery three years ago. Which was ridiculous considering my phone could be replaced for a few hundred dollars. I could replace both of ours with a few phone calls and a swipe of my American Express.
“I’m really sorry,” I repeated.
“Unless you did this on purpose, you can stop apologizing. We just have to deal with this.”
“Right.” I bit my lip.
“Who are you?” he asked.
My nerves jangled with familiar anxiety. But he had my phone. There was nothing I could do about it if he decided to play detective. Oh god, I’d worked so hard at keeping it clean. Had I missed anything? Anything that he could use? Finally, I said, “Clementine.”
“Clementine?” he repeated with a tone of total disbelief. It was a typical reaction.
“Yes.”
“I’m Justin. I’d say nice to meet you, but . . .”
“Yeah. Well, thanks for being cool about this, Justin.”
“No problem. Do you mind if I give your number to a few people?”
It took me a moment to process what he meant. He still needed a phone, and for now, mine was all he had.
“No, that’s fine. Go ahead. I don’t really think I’ll be getting many calls. Everyone knows I’m out of town.”
“You can give my number to people if you need to.”
“Same to you.”
“Okay . . .” He faded, seeming uncertain. “I guess I’ll just . . . get in touch with you if you get any messages.”
“Um . . . I guess . . . I’ll talk to you later then.”
I disconnected, finding my brother staring at me. “Was he upset?” he asked.
“Yeah, but at least he wasn’t a dick about it.”
“Why don’t you just have them both replaced? Tell him to go pick up a new phone at the nearest store.”
“I thought of that, but maybe he doesn’t have the cash to drop on a new one.”
“So pay for it.”
“People are weird about stuff like that. Besides, do you really think I should point out the fact that he has the personal phone numbers of some of the wealthiest people in the country? We have no clue who this guy is.”
He made a face, but he knew I was right.
This was so so bad. My grandparents were going to kill me. “Oh my god, Honor, you have to call Grandma right away!”
He didn’t even hesitate, just reached for his phone and dialed. He knew how it was. If she didn’t hear that we were safe and sound very soon, she was going to start calling me. And the last thing the poor schmuck whose day I’d already ruined needed was to have Miriam Schulman-Daly hitting redial until she got a response.
“Don’t tell her a stranger has it! Tell her I left it at home!” I added to Honor in a rush, tugging on his arm to make sure he was paying attention.
He waved me off, but I thought I could trust him to give me this small bit of cover. While I waited for Honor to explain the situation, the phone buzzed with a new text message from my line.
Sorry if I was a jerk on the phone. I’m frustrated.
I replied, You weren’t. No apology necessary.
We’re stuck with each other for now. An apology is definitely necessary.
I’m the one who should be giving it. My stupid brother grabbed the wrong phone.
All right, so we’re mutually sorry and we can blame your brother, agreed?
I smiled. Who was this guy?
Agreed.
Release: A WHISPER OF DESIRE by Bronwen Evans + GIVEAWAY!!!
Sensual heat melts the ice in the new Disgraced Lords novel from USA Today bestselling author Bronwen Evans, as a marriage of convenience leads to delightful pleasure—and mortal danger.
Lady Marisa Hawkestone’s nightmare is just beginning when she wakes up naked, with no memory of the night before, lying next to Maitland Spencer, the Duke of Lyttleton—a man so aloof and rational he’s nicknamed “the Cold Duke.” A scandal ensues, in which Marisa’s beloved beau deserts her. As a compromised woman, Marisa agrees to marry Maitland. But on her wedding night, Marisa discovers the one place the duke shows emotion: in the bedroom, where the man positively scorches the sheets.
Taught from a young age to take duty seriously, Maitland cannot understand his new wife’s demands on his love and affection. Marisa’s hot-blooded spirit, however, does have its attractions—especially at night. In retrospect, it seems quite silly that he didn’t marry sooner. But being one of the Libertine Scholars requires constant vigilance, even more so when the enemy with a grudge against his closest friends targets Marisa. Now Maitland must save the woman who sets his heart aflame—or die trying.
“Of course I have been kissed,” She brazened.
He leaned his inviting lips so close they were almost upon hers. “Liar.”
“I do not lie. If I were a man I’d call you out.”
“But you’re not a man, Marisa. You are very much a woman.”
With that, he ran the tip of his tongue over her bottom lip. She drew in a deep breath, surprised at her body’s sudden, feminine reaction to his words. Her stomach clenched into a tight, silken fist. Never before had the sound of her name from Maitland’s lips evoked such overwhelming sensations. Her body hummed with desire. Maybe it was just the way his voice seemed to caress, deepening to a low, dark pitch that was almost dangerous. Maybe it was the sudden glint of need she caught in his eyes that made her wonder how a man with obvious fire in his soul could let the world think he was cold and aloof. How had this powerful man’s upbringing shaped his life, and why did she suddenly care?
Raleigh looked up, and his eyes softened in a way she knew, and felt, right down to her bones. He didn’t smile, but he stood, his body tensing as he took in her approach. Friendly or hostile? He was no doubt trying to figure it out. She tried to smile, to let him know that she wasn’t here to yell at him, but her face felt frozen. Paralyzed. Hell, was she going to freeze up again?
She tried to utter a greeting, but her dry throat prevented the words from emerging. She waved instead.
Raleigh stepped out from behind the stone, coming toward her. His eyes hungrily roamed over her, skipping from her face down her body, then quickly back again. Not lustily but as if sating a deep thirst. And there, beneath the question in his eyes, lay a hint of a smile. Suddenly she was transported back to that first time she’d gone into the garage just to see him. To ask him more about the races. He’d looked both pleased and surprised.
“Mia,” he said, her name loaded with more than she could interpret.
For a moment, she forgot about the scars that would be visible in the bright sunlight. She forgot to breathe. “Raleigh,” she said. She thought she was smiling, but it might look more like a grimace. Gawd, get hold of yourself. You’re just here to let him know you don’t hate him. “I—”
“Mia! We have to go!” Her mother’s voice pounded harshly from behind her.
Mia turned, spotting her mother duck-walking over in spiked heels that kept sinking into the earth, hands fisted at her sides. She turned back to Raleigh. “I just wanted to say . . . I don’t —”
“Mia,” her mother ground out.
“Blame you,” Mia managed, and quickly walked toward her mother, not wanting her anywhere near Raleigh. He would probably think she was still that timid seventeen-year-old who was afraid her parents would find out that she was sneaking out at night. But she wanted to protect him from all the angry, imprudent things that would gush from her mother’s mouth.
“What are you doing?” she hissed as Mia hooked her arm through hers and spun her back toward the casket.
“It’s called closure, Mother. The last time we spoke, he’d called to see how I was doing, and I hung up on him.”
“Well, he deserved it,” she shot back, flicking a glance backward.
Mia fought not to do the same. She didn’t want to see what expression he might have. Disgust. Sympathy. Regret. Or, even worse, just dismissal. “No, he didn’t.”
“She was talking to him,” her mother said when they reached her father. “She went to him.”
Mia met her father’s curious and disconcerted expression. “I just wanted him to know I wasn’t angry at him.” Though, dammit, she hadn’t gotten that part out.
“Why do you care what he thinks?” her father asked in his low, emotionless voice.
“Or do you care?” her mother asked. “You’re not still—”
“Of course not.” Even uttering the words in love was preposterous. Mia couldn’t help herself, glancing toward Raleigh. He was kneeling in front of the stone again, but his eyes were on her. “It was just a summer romance. Teenage hormones.”
They seemed gratified by that last declaration, even though it sounded hollow to her ears. “We should go,” her father said, nodding toward the people now milling by the limousine.
Once they reached it, she shot one more look toward Raleigh. She wanted to believe her recent declaration, but she felt exactly like that girl who had fallen fast and hard for the boy who’d made her a woman.
“I’m still pretty sure you hate us just a little. I’m not big on adorable. I’ll tell you what, though. You can make it up to me by introducing me to a rugged, hot cowboy. You must have some new ones this year, right?”
“I don’t know, Hayls. Last time the three of us were together out here, we managed to get lost, scare up a bear, and almost get hit by lightning. And that was before the barn fire. I think we’re solidly in the bad-risk category as far as any of the guys here are concerned.”
“But you’ve been living here for six months! Haven’t you cleared our names by now?”
“I thought I was making progress, but I heard Decker on the phone to his insurance agent yesterday, just being sure all of the ranch coverages were up-to-date.”
“Shut up. Not true.”
Kyla laughed. “I wish I was kidding. As much as he’s happy to have you and Jess back out here, I think he’s also a little terrified.” She winked and reached over to squeeze Hayley’s hand. “I’m so excited that you’re here! It’s been way too long!”
“You say that now . . . “
Hayley turned to watch the landscape fly past. To her right, rolling grasslands stretched out for countless miles, green now tinged with late summer yellows and oranges. To her left, the greens melted into the blues and purples of the mountains in the distance. Just like last summer, she was awed by the sheer . . . big-ness of the landscape.
“Good Lord, it’s gorgeous out here.”
Kyla smiled. “Did you forget?”
“I think maybe the beauty of it got overshadowed by all that other stuff you just mentioned.”
“Good point.”
“So this year we can just sit back, relax, and have fun, right? No disasters?”
“I’m totally on board with the fun part—but I’m not sure how much sitting back and relaxing there’ll be. We’ve got a full slate of guests, and then there’s this little wedding shindig next weekend. My to-do list is about three miles long. I have no idea how you and Jess and I are going to get it all done.”
“Simple. We rip the list in thirds. You take the top, Jess takes the middle, and I take the bottom. And then I sit on the cabin porch and drink lemonade while you guys run around, because obviously, the items on the bottom of the list aren’t all that important anyway.”
“Hayley!”
“Kidding! We’re on it! Jess and I are ready to go full-on cowgirl for two full weeks. You worry about the wedding, and we’ll worry about everything else.” Hayley felt her nose wrinkle. “And please don’t ruin this moment by saying something ridiculous like ‘That’s supposed to comfort me?
“If Whisper Creek could afford the empty cabins, we would have blocked the week and enjoyed some peace and quiet, but no dice.” Kyla let her hand flutter out the driver’s side window, smiling even though wedding stress had to be taking hold by now. “But don’t worry. I’m determined not to go all bridezilla on you guys.”
“If you do, we’ll just send you out on a scavenger hunt . . . with a bad map.”
Kyla laughed. “I did manage to save you your favorite cabin. You have a fireplace and a claw-foot tub.”
“Heaven. I love you. Now all I need is a hot cowboy to cuddle with in front of that fireplace.”
“Or in that tub?” Kyla raised her eyebrows, grinning.
“I’d settle for the fireplace at this point, even though it’s August.”
“You could always come for Christmas.”
“You’ve mentioned that—a couple hundred times.”
Kyla got a dreamy look in her eye. “There’s just nothing like Whisper Creek at Christmas.”
“I think one trip per year to cowboy heaven is probably dangerous enough.”
Kyla signaled for the Carefree exit and headed down the ramp. “You never know. Whisper Creek does strange things to people. Did I ever tell you about those Native American stories I was reading this winter?”
“Uh-oh. Is the water under some ancient curse or something? You don’t believe that stuff, do you?”
“It’s not cursed. And no, I don’t. But a lot of the old folklore mentions the creek, like they thought there was something magical and mythic about it.”
“Cursed.”
“Stop it.” Kyla laughed. “Maybe they used it as a love potion. I’m going to mix some in your lemonade, just to see what happens.”
“As long as you send a hot cowboy over to help me drink it, I’m fine with that.”
Suddenly Hayley spotted a group of men on horseback in the far distance. “Ooh! Look! Real ones!” She craned her neck as they passed, drooling just a little bit over the way their bodies hugged the horses.
It was definitely good to be back in Montana.
Will you be happy for us, Aric?
Four days ago, I wouldn’t have asked myself that question. I would have known based on the depths of our feelings, and from the intimate moments in our past. I remembered one day in particular when we first began living together. We lay in bed facing each other. Aric traced my jawline with his finger as he spoke. It tickled and made me smile. “I wanted to talk to you about something.”
“What is it, love?”
He’d returned my smile. It made him happy whenever I used that term of endearment. “I’ve noticed you haven’t had your cycle. Do you think you could be pregnant?”
My fingertips playfully danced against his muscular chest while I tried in vain to suppress my blush. “My periods are irregular. They only come about every nine weeks. Don’t worry, I should be getting another one soon.”
“I wasn’t worried,” he’d replied. At the time, I could have sworn he seemed disappointed.
Another time I recalled, Aric and I had run into a family whose baby I’d delivered when I was still a nurse. We each took turns holding the baby and had exchanged heartfelt glances. Although neither of us had articulated our feelings, I knew we’d wondered about our own family one day.
Well, it looks like the day has come a little sooner than expected.
I was stopped at a light when my phone buzzed. My heart clenched when I read the incoming text.
I’m sorry. I need some time alone. Aric
The obnoxious car horn behind me snapped me from my stupor and made me drop the phone. It was just as well, I probably would have thrown it with how frustrated I felt. Damnit, Aric. Don’t do this . . . not today.
I drove to my house in Dollar Point to gather some personal items following my doctor’s appointment. I was about to take a walk along Lake Tahoe to clear my head, when someone knocked on my door. Anara waited on my doorstep, holding a charm similar to the one Genevieve had given me to pass through the wards. My hackles instinctively rose. “What are you doing here, Anara?”
A long, vicious growl rumbled through his chest. “I’m here to tell you that if you ever see Aric again I’ll—”
“You’ll what? Kill me?” I was livid. How dare he come to my home and threaten me!
Anara just laughed. “No, you stupid woman. I’ll kill him.”
His response incensed me. I crouched and readied myself to attack. “Not if you’re already dead.”
