5/5 Review: HIS TO SEDUCE by Stacey Lynn

Camden and David are two peas in a pod, they both have secrets and both have suffered a tragic past. But after the pain, comes the pleasure. His to Seduce is the final installment in the Fireside series, it is compelling, amorous, and sexy as hell. There wasn’t a time while reading this book did I feel rushed, as a matter of fact, it piqued my interest and kept me up till 2:00 a.m. to finish the book. I didn’t want to put the book down and go to bed, it was because David and Camden made me cried when they bared their souls talking about the past. Their relationship has depths, very passionate, good chemistry, and nothing beat a heartfelt happy ending.

David McGregor is a player, or at least that’s what he wants the world to think. He has a hard exterior and often wear a disgruntle mask. He doesn’t want anyone asking about his past, his family legacy, or where he’d been, and what he’s done. However, he’s tired of the loneliness so David decided to come home to be near his family and friends. Taking up bartending at his friend’s restaurant, David have no shortage of female companionship, until he laid eyes on “Miss Proper” Camden Reed.

Camden Reed is not the laid-back kind of girl, she is tightly wound, poor, and live within her means. She’s had a hard life, a hard worker, and definitely not some play-boy’s flavor of the month. But despite her constrain, she is drawn to David and stupidly attractive to him. But no matter how hard she tries to play it cool, to refuse him, the sexual tension between them is always there. It’s like little flickers waiting to turn into flame. 

5/5 Review: Dark Crime by Christine Feehan

I have all of Christine Feehan's Dark Series books in paperback, and have just finished purchasing all of them in Kindle format. I love her stories of the Carpathian Warriors who find their lifemates, and at once their world is in vivid color, where once it was shades of grey. Each plot is different, although the premise is the same throughout the series: Carpathian Warrior meets lifemate; sees in color; binds their souls, and then go off to fight the "undead". Undead are Carpathian Warriors who have lost their hopes of finding a lifemate, and have turned into nosferatu preying on human and Carpathian alike.

The book was awesome. It had everything anyone could need from a book. Action, love, darkness, betrayal, mystery, romance, and characters that you can fall in love with. To be able to see the profession of the characters from the beginning of the book to the end was a delight.

I highly recommend all of her series... you won't be disappointed!

5/5 Review: Midnight Revenge by Elle Kennedy

This is the type of romance I adore. Smart heroine, loyal to her family. Strong hero, battling between what his mind says is right and what his heart tells him. I found Sofia continuing loyalty very believable, especially when their past is revealed. The chemistry sparked between Sofia and Derek from chapter one and continued to build. I loved that build up. They didn't just dismiss their earlier issues, they talked them out and got to know each other better and because of that, I believed in their happily ever after by the end. This book is non-stop action. Guns, gangs, stuff blowing up, a couple on the run through Miami. Very fast paced with little downtime

What I liked about this story was that the hero and heroine were together for the almost the entire book. I like watching how they handle the running from people trying to kill them and near-death experiences all while trying to figure out why they stopped dating in the first place. There are some serious sparks between the two. I also always enjoy stories with family/friends who will step up and help with no questions asked. I did not expect the ending, so that was quite interesting! Elle did a wonderful job with the couple of intimate scenes between Sofia and Derek . They were sensual, full of emotion and really fit the characters. This book was full of suspense, action, family, friendship, romance and love. I highly recommend this book if you like romantic suspense and I look forward to reading the other books in the series.

5/5 Review: Never Let You Go by Monica Murphy

This is the second book in a two part series. The first book tells the story of Katie and Ethan (Will). How she was kidnapped and physically and mentally abused by a terrible man named Arron, Will's father. Years later Will reconnects with Katie under a different name, Ethan. They go through a lot together. They fall for each other. Katie finds out the truth at the end of the first book and it devastated her that she was deceived by the man she had given herself to.

A little time passes before they start talking again. Lisa Swanson interviews Aaron about his side of the story and now she wants to hear what both Katie and Ethan have to say about it. Katie refuses to do the interview without Ethan; but Ethan has zero desire to share his side with the media. Katie and Ethan end up deciding to do the interview together. No one knows they have been in a relationship. They both know what everyone would think if they went public.

Lisa gives Aaron Ethan's address and he writes to him asking for his and Katie's forgiveness for everything. Neither of them wants to forgive that monster. They also don't believe him when he says he's changed. Aaron has little time left before his execution. Katie can't shake the feeling someone is watching her just beyond the woods behind her home. Lisa tries to convince Katie that Ethan is working with his father and is using her. She knows deep inside her heart that it's not true and Aaron has lied to Lisa. Turns out that Aaron does have someone on the outside keeping tabs on her and Ethan.

Katie and Ethan are trying to get past what happened with Ethan's deception because they really truly love each other. They are able to rekindle their relationship.

Aaron ends up breaking out of prison by faking a heart attack when the prison is understaffed. Aaron goes after Lisa first because he thinks they have a connection. He finds out where Katie's lives from her and then proceeds to go after her too. Lisa knocks on the door and Aaron pushes past her to get to Katie. Lisa tries to run and Aaron shoots and kills her before she was able to get away. Aaron takes Katie back to the amusement park where he originally kidnapped her. Ethan was out of town and was able to catch a quick flight home after hearing what's happening.

Aaron makes Katie ride a bunch of the rides while he stands there watching. Katie thinks for sure this is the end and he's going to finish what he started years ago. He then makes her ride the sky glider; the very ride he abducted her from. She tries to reason with him to spare her life by lying to him and telling him she's pregnant with his grandchild. Aaron doesn't care and continues to force her onto the ride. Ethan shows up and pleads for his father to spare her and take him instead. Aaron agrees, but they never make it to the end of the ride. Aaron ends up being shot by the cops that are surrounding the amusement park.

Katie and Ethan can finally breathe and enjoy their lives together. While at the hospital they find out that Katie truly is pregnant. He asks her to marry him and of course she says yes!

I was so happy that I was able to read the conclusion of their story. This book was a great read. It was full of love, action, and a little bit of mystery. The sex scenes were full of passion and very steamy. I was bummed at the end of the first book when they went their separate ways; but I'm glad they found their way back to each other. I absolutely love Monica Murphy! If you plan on reading this book make sure you start with book one. You won't be disappointed!

Legal Wolf's Mate by Eve Langlais

Gavin is a high powered attorney who just so happens to be a werewolf. When his good friend and fellow were animal Broderick begs him to help a seemingly innocent women who's being accused of murder. When she shows up at Gavins office, he's unprepared for the instant connection he feels with her, something powerful pulls him towards her and he hasn't even said a word to her! Now he'll do anything to protect his new mate, and do anything to convince her to be his.

Megan is a timid young woman who has no idea what happened the night she was framed for murder, and her state appointed lawyer just wants her to take the deal she's being offered. Then she runs into Broderick, who kindly offers his friends help, free of charge thank god, and she feels maybe she'll be able to win her case.

As the days go on, and weirder and weirder things keep happening to Megan, she must put her life in the hands of Gavins. All she has to do is resist the temptation of his sexy body and even sexier alpha maleness. Shouldn't be too hard, she's had enough hard headed men in her life, she should be able to handle being alone with him... right??

So I loved the plot here, it has action, romance, pure sexiness and of course twist and turns! Gavin is so not ready to give up his single life, but I love how Eve doesn't make his character a complete love sick puppy when he sees Megan. He's determined to show her that he can be good for her, and that they'll be great together. He's a bit cock some times, but I think that plays into the whole wolf thing.

Megan character is a little harder to grasp, while the thoughts going through her head portray that of a scared young woman, occasionally her actions make you wonder if she's hiding something from Gavin...

The only thing that I didn't like about this story was one particular plot twist. It felt like the author just woke up one morning and decided to change the entire direction of the story. Even though it was still well written and I enjoyed it, I felt like I read 2 halfs of different books.

Feral Passions by Kate Douglas

Cherry is dragged to Feral passions, an all exclusive resort angled towards women, by her sister and sisters best friend. She only agrees so they don't loose their money on the package they bought after their other friend backed out. She definitely didn't expect to fall in love with the outdoors, the mountains, the freedom and the resorts special attractions, the wolves that live on the preservation that the resort sit on.

Tracker Jakes is the head of Feral Passions resort. He came up with the idea of a ladies only resort that exclusively accepts only 6 women at a time. His hope is that his pack will be able to find mates. The pack is getting lonely as none of them have been able to find mates in years. All the members of his pack help run the resort, some one is bound to find their mate... right?

Brad and Cain are two of the resorts "employees" they both feel an instant connection with Cherry, one they've been waiting for for a very long time. They have 1 week to convince her that they're meant to be.

I love Kates books, and this plot was pretty good, and the story well written. But I had a hard time connecting to Cherry's character. I felt like I was reading a story about a teenager, not an almost 30 year old woman. I understand she's pretty innocent, but still...

Aside from that I enjoyed the story and am interested to see if she's developing a new series from this.

The Alpha's Woman by A. C. Arthur

Kira is an alpha female who refuses to take any crap from anyone. When her own pack turns on her, including her own father, she refuses to stay with them any longer and runs. She'd rather be a lone wolf than stay with them a minute longer.

Blaez is the alpha of his own pack, and when he finds Kira walking alone in the woods so close to the full moon, he decides he has to save her... by kidnapping her... he locks her in their fortress with his small pack, and tells her he refuses to let her go for her own safety. A lone female wolf can be claimed by any wolf during the full moon phase. While she knows the risk she took, she demands he let her go and not worry about her, but something inside him tells him not to let her go.

This was by far my favorite story of the three! It was creative, and a different take on the werewolf lore. I loved the members of his pack, and would very much enjoy reading about each of them finding their mates. I will definitely be looking her up and adding her to my to be read list!

 

5/5 Review: Big Easy Temptation by Shayla Black & Lexi Blake

Dax Spencer is a household name, American royalty. Him and his 5 friends are known as "the perfect gentleman" even though most of them are anything but! However, the moment Dax laid eyes on Holland he knew she was the one, his forever. Now we just have to convince her.

Holland Kirk is a NCIS officer, she takes her career very seriously, and while she longs to be with Dax, she does not want the world to see her as the playboy's girlfriend, only after his money. No, she wants to rise to her own success. She grew up with her aunt and uncle, who was a New Orleans police officer. She knew where she wanted to go, and Dax did not fit in the equation.

But Dax was not giving up, using his dad's case as an excuse to work with her, he talks her into helping him prove his innocence, but there are dangerous paths to finding out the truth. Will a relationship between them survive, will they?

What can I say about these 2 ladies that hasn't already been said!? They're geniuses! This series is amazing! It grips you from beginning to end. Each book could be read individually, but I don't recommend it. They are written to be a true continous series. Each book however is based on a different couple.

This story is amazing, and I couldn't put it down, the overall story of the series is a mystery that I can't wait to see solved! I try to figure out the clues myself, but never see the truth coming! This series is sexy, gripping, mysterious and down right addicting! Definitely a must read!

5/5 Review: Falling in Deeper by Shayla Black

NOTE: (This is a Dom/sub series, this book in particular is pretty mild, but the others may not be. Please be prepared before you read this series.)

Stone Sutter is a convicted felon who is out on 'leave' helping out the feds. His job, convince Lily Taylor to testify against Timothy Canton, an evil man who hides his secrets deep, and has put on a show for the state of California, he's about to throw his hat into the governors race. When Stone took one look at Lily, aka Sweet Pea/Misty Smith and fell in love and had to get closer to her.

Lily is working at Dominion, a D/s club. She has so many dark secrets that she keeps a wall around herself. She's meek and mild, and scared of almost everything, with good reason. Canton ruined her life 7 years ago and she's been on the run ever since. Constantly looking over her shoulder and making sure not to get too close to anyone. Until Axel that is. He became her best friend and protector. He taught her so much, and trained her to submit, while caring to her needs. She loved him, but never fell "in love" with him. But he met the love of his life, and has left to go to England for a while, and ended their Dom/sub "relationship". Stone felt he was the perfect man to fill Lily's needS. She needed a new protector, and he knew he had to have her.

I just LOVE Shayla Black! I think everything she writes is amazing! I have to admit though, that I didn't know she had continued the "wicked ties" series, and this is the 11th book! Man do I have some catching up to do! You definitely do not have to read the others before picking up this one, but I guarantee you'll want to pick them up after! Falling In Deeper is simply amazing and a great addition to any collections!

5/5 Review: FALLING FREE by Tina Wainscott

Falling Free is the 3rd in the Falling Fast series by Tina Wainscott - I will start by saying I have not read the previous installments and didn't flounder at all with this book. Falling Free is simply amazing!

We meet Grace - she has made it her life's goal to prove her father innocent and have his prison sentence overturned. She became a lawyer with that being her soul purpose in life. She is dealt a healthy blow when her father tells her to stop and that he is in fact guilty. This stuns her and she is left without a purpose.

Well, trying to figure out what she wants to do with herself, she meets Artemis Tanner - a drift car racer. When Tanner and Grace meet fireworks ensue. But can Tanner stay in one place long enough to win Grace's heart? Can Grace learn to trust him? This is the story of how they find themselves and each other.

Ms. Wainscott's writing is wonderful, her characters are strong and believable. If you are in the market for a great story - I strongly recommend Falling Free.

 

5/5 Review: SHADOW RIDER by Christine Feehan

Being a huge fan of Christine Feehan and having read both her Carpathian and Ghost Walkers series. I of course, was anxious to see what world she would bring to her old and new readers alike. I'll put in here a warning that this book is rated R and contains some extreme sexual content. 

In this new world, we are given two very magnetic characters. Stefano Ferraro and Francesca Cappello. Stefano is from a very old wealthy Italian family that might or might not have mob ties. Francesca is a woman on the run, trying to make a living while clearly hiding from her past. Add in a world of magic where shadows go hand in hand with death, and it's not hard to get lost in this book for hours at a time. The main characters chemistry leaps off the pages, as they try to handle each other and the dangers surrounding them. 

I'm happy to say that once again Christine Feehan did not disappoint, Shadow Rider is a literary masterpiece! For a long time reader like myself, I found myself once again surprised by how creative Christine is when it comes to taking old concepts and breathing new life into them, with that special added dose of magic thrown in. In this case the long treasured world of Italian family mixed with justice that's well deserved. 

Those new to the Feehan world of romance and magic, will find something to love in this first book of the Shadow series, and hopefully leading them to her other series.

 

5/5 Review: FOOL ME ONCE by Harlan Coben

Maya is home from being away at war. She was a special ops pilot and has a past that's haunting her dreams. Visions she can't escape from. She can't escape a decision that was made during a mission. While she was away her sister was brutally murdered. Now her husband is gunned down and has died. Her friend gives her a nanny cam disguised as a digital picture frame to help Maya watch over her two year old daughter while she is away at work. Maya decides to review the footage and is in shock to see her deceased husband playing with her daughter. She can't believe hers eyes. Is her mind playing tricks on her? Or, is she actually seeing her dead husband. She's trying to place together the clues to see if she's going crazy or if in fact her dead husband is not so dead.

I'm so happy I was able to review this book. It was AMAZING! I really love a good mystery, and Harlan Coben writes some of the best I've ever read. Right from the start you are sucked into this story. Maya has lost her sister in an attack. Someone physically attacked her then shot her in the head. Maya is at war when this happened and is traumatized. They were really close. Then Maya and her husband meet up in Central Park one night after her return. Out of nowhere two men proceed to shoot her husband Joe in what is believed to be an attempted robbing gone bad. Maya's friend Eileen gives Maya one of her hidden nanny cams to help Maya watch over her nanny while she's at work. Eileen says trust no one.

While Maya is away working something strange appears on her nanny cam. Joe, Maya's supposedly dead husband makes an appearance in the home. It shows him sitting on the couch playing with their daughter. Maya doesn't know if she's losing her mind, or if she's really seeing what she thinks. Maya shows the video to the nanny to see if she can help put this into perspective, but the nanny says she doesn't see anything. Maya is confused and losses her temper. The nanny sprays Maya with pepper spray after Maya puts her hands on her. The nanny grabs the SD card out of the nanny cam and disappears. Maya starts to wonder if she is in on something that Maya thinks is something so much bigger.

Maya starts to piece together little things slowing and uncovers the truth behind her sisters death and even her husband. She puts her trust in a man, the last man on earth she should. With Corey's help she uncovers things. She finds out that her sister had been talking Corey to keep him from releasing information of a mission gone terribly wrong that Maya was involved in while overseas. She also uncovers some horrific truths about her husbands past. I don't want to give away too much, it would ruin reading the book!

This book keeps you guessing right from the beginning. I never saw the ending coming! I have to say I was shocked and even sad at the same time. This book is very well written and I would recommend this to anyone that loves a good mystery.

3.5/5 Review: The Darker Side of Pleasure by Eden Bradley

This book contained 3 stories. Each of which were hard to read for me, 2 of which I couldn't finish. I can't stand the sadist and masochist part of BDSM, and that's what each of these stories were about. Being beaten, publicly humiliation and submission/sexual slavery.

The first story is about a husband and wife who are on the edge of divorce and decide to try one last thing to keep their marriage alive. I read through most of this story, but it hit on a lot of personal demons in my own past and I had to stop because it became too hard to read.

The second story is of a young woman who desires pain and reaches out to a trainer in the Dominant world. The Dom kept 3 women in his home naked at all times. They had to do his bidding, including bathing the new girl. I was a little blown away by that. The only thing that kept my interest was the main male character, the Doms nephew. This man was also a trainer in the Dom world, but when he looked at her, he wanted to hear her speak, hold her and give her everything she desired. While yes, she desired the pain, she was not into the humiliation she was getting at his uncles hand. This story is what gave this book the 3 points for me.

The last story I unfortunately could not get far into. A sex column reporter was interviewing a Dom for her BDSM story, he talked her into participating in order to get a better story. I was intrigued, until he mentioned her being naked and doing everything he said o ey his every command, serving him drinks, bending over his knee. I couldn't read any further. I enjoy reading of bondage and toy usage... but, while I understand woman enjoy being a sex slave, and enjoy pain and those kind of things, I do not. I cannot read about it either. So while I give this book a 3/5, my review is only one side of the spectrum. Others may completely love these stories, they are written well and meant to be enjoyed, just not by me.

4/5 Review: FIRE BOUND by Christine Feehan

Fire Bound is book 5 in the Sea Haven Series by the wonderful and talented author, Christine Feehan.  I have read many books from this author and she never fails to deliver.

Lissa Piner has a secret.  A secret that she has not shared with anyone else.  As a talented glass blower who is quickly becoming well known, it’s her trip to Italy that really makes her smile.  To everyone else she is there to make a masterpiece, but to Lissa she is there to finally avenge a terrible circumstance and get revenge from those who took her family from her.

Casmir Prakenskii is a trained assassin living off the grid.  He has been asked to escort Lissa and protect her but what he sees when he looks at her is his other half.  Guess we're not in Kansas anymore because things are about to get scorched!

I loved how the characters were developed to such a point you could feel all their emotions.  Casmir and Lissa burn up the pages, and by that I do mean in every sense of the phrase.  The sex scenes are long, but extra sexy and make you thirst for a cold drink.

The mysteries that are unfolded, the betrayal, the loyalties and every other little flicker of the heart makes Fire Bound sensational and scorchingly hot.  I LOVED it!  

5/5 Review: DARK PROMISE by Christine Feehan

Dark Promise is the next instalment from Christine Feehan's Carpathian Series.  This series has been continuing for so long that I think it deserves to be recognised as its own world.  Could you imagine having a real Carpathian living amongst our world, it would be amazing, just like this instalment, absolutely amazing! Miss Feehan is a master storyteller and never disappoint her fans! 

Dark Promise is the evidence that Christine Feehan can not only hold together a series together for 29 books, but she can keep the storyline unique and creative.  This book is an amazing piece of work.  It touches on subjects that are sensitive but done in such a way that it is realistic enough to believe the scenes but still fit the storyline perfectly.

The storyline originally sets the scene between our beloved characters Gabrielle Sanders and Gary Jensen.  We know a lot about these two characters through many of the books before this one.  We have always known they were destined to be together and it was only a matter of time before something great happens for them.  A wedding night anyone would assume to be the night for great things, and in this book that is no exception except for the huge twist that comes with the wedding night. 

Aleksei is an ancient and although we have all grown to love the ancients from previous books I have to admit that Aleksei isn’t my favourite.  He has all the qualities that I usually love.  He is a protector and alpha, and I do believe him to be a fine warrior.  The chemistry between himself and Gabrielle is intense and the dominant BDSM ways are expertly told through a brilliant storyline. 

Trixie Joanes and Fane were my favourite couple of this book.  Trixie is the grandmother to Teagan who is lifemate to Andre from a previous book.  Trixie has come to the Carpathian Mountains in search of Teagan who she is sure is in a great deal of trouble.  What she learns to late is the people she has come with are there to kill Teagan and her friends.  Trixie manages to lose them within the dense forest and finds herself high up in the mountains.  She follows a song (which is her gift) and finds herself inside the monastery that several ancients have claimed as their own so they don't interact with anyone else and can stand off meeting the dawn or turning vampire.

Fane is one of these ancients and when he sees Trixie for the first time he is so happy and intrigued by her that he doesn’t know what he should do with her.  After all, it’s not every day your lifemate tries to greet you with a stake to the heart.  Thankfully Fane is such an easy going and lovable personality that he has the charisma to guide Trixie into realising just what sort of treasure she is.  I loved Fane's personality.  He was such a strong and dominant male, but at the same time knew how to let go enough to have Trixie's dominant personality reach out.  Loved the chemistry between these two.  Loved everything about them.

And what would a Carpathian book be without the vampires?  We had several nasties in this one and they were all dealt with exactly how they should be dealt with.  Deadly and Mercilessly!  There was also the sensual sex scenes that we expect no less of from Christine Feehan books, and as usual they were as hot as you would have come to know.

My heart breaks for Gary and the only thing that keeps me going is the fact I believe Christine Feehan would never leave him in such a state and he will have his happy ending too.  I’m hoping this will be in the next book or two, but after reading this book, I’m not sure if I could see a book before Gary's or not.  I guess that’s something we will have to wait and find out.

For a year she’d gotten used to no more guaranteed dates at parties and shindigs, the opera, or the theater. No more museum jaunts or gallery openings. Now there was free time after work, meals eaten alone, and an empty side of the bed where she’d once snuggled up to her charming and popular husband.

The smack of betrayal—the wrenching pain that had dulled over the year adding punch, nonetheless—blindsided her, and tears welled.

She sniffed. Okay, that made her feel so much better.

The beginning of the end had gone something like this.

“You cheated on me.”

“I need something more.”

She liked to think he whined like a petulant child. “Something more? What is missing, Sean?”

He’d stepped up to her then. “You. You’re missing. You don’t need me, Rafferty. That’s the bottom line. I might have an easy time with women, but I married you. You’re always so careful, holding back. Always doing some deal for your dad. You’re his closer, his hit woman. I’m not really sure where I fit into your life.”

“And that translates to infidelity instead of communication.”

He laughed harshly and looked away. “It translates into you not being present. We’re supposed to do this together, not live separate lives. I needed more. I went and found it.”

“Flinging your dick all over Manhattan is my fault. Typical.”

That confrontation conversation had happened almost a year ago. The papers were now signed. She was no longer connected to Sean.

Sean had accused her of being absent in both heart and home. She did travel a lot, and those trips had increased over the year since he’d moved out of their penthouse. She hadn’t kept the place after that.

She had gone over it in her head so many times since she’d separated from him, wondering how everything had gone wrong. How he could have so callously betrayed her.

She groaned over the soft notes of violins and French horns. Classical music played on her dashboard receiver in the sleek, new British sports car she’d bought on a whim when she’d left New York City five days ago on this impromptu, crazy road trip out west. No radio and the risk of a love song to remind her that she was no longer married.

Was there a reason she hadn’t opened up to him? A reason she traveled more?

These thoughts had consumed her as she’d whizzed down the highway. A small sign let her know she had been getting close to Laurel Falls. The name sounded pretty, probably one of those idyllic, little gems tucked away with its hominess and wholesomeness spilling over the edges of pretty tree-lined streets and apple-pie hospitality.

Before she’d left the roadside motel, she’d put the top down on the snazzy blue sports car, tying her long blond hair into a tight ponytail, leaving her long bangs to blow around her forehead. When there hadn’t been livestock trucks trundling along, the air had been brisk and smelled amazing.

In the wide-open spaces of Montana, the wind always seemed to be blowing—even sitting on the side of the road, her hair was never still. A clear backdrop of postcard-perfect mountains rising up around her, snow still on their towering peaks even in the middle of October when the temperature was a brisk forty-nine degrees. She couldn’t have seen those from the air.

Now, almost to her destination of Sanderson, Montana, she’d decided that she was out of breath from running.

I pushed my fingers through my hair. My heart was full of a feeling I’d had waiting for my grandmother to come out of her hip replacement surgery three years ago. Which was ridiculous considering my phone could be replaced for a few hundred dollars. I could replace both of ours with a few phone calls and a swipe of my American Express.

“I’m really sorry,” I repeated.

“Unless you did this on purpose, you can stop apologizing. We just have to deal with this.”

“Right.” I bit my lip.               

“Who are you?” he asked.

My nerves jangled with familiar anxiety. But he had my phone. There was nothing I could do about it if he decided to play detective. Oh god, I’d worked so hard at keeping it clean. Had I missed anything? Anything that he could use? Finally, I said, “Clementine.”

“Clementine?” he repeated with a tone of total disbelief. It was a typical reaction.

“Yes.”

“I’m Justin. I’d say nice to meet you, but . . .”

“Yeah. Well, thanks for being cool about this, Justin.”

“No problem. Do you mind if I give your number to a few people?”

It took me a moment to process what he meant. He still needed a phone, and for now, mine was all he had.

“No, that’s fine. Go ahead. I don’t really think I’ll be getting many calls. Everyone knows I’m out of town.”

“You can give my number to people if you need to.”

“Same to you.”

“Okay . . .” He faded, seeming uncertain. “I guess I’ll just . . . get in touch with you if you get any messages.”

“Um . . . I guess . . . I’ll talk to you later then.”

I disconnected, finding my brother staring at me. “Was he upset?” he asked.

“Yeah, but at least he wasn’t a dick about it.”

“Why don’t you just have them both replaced? Tell him to go pick up a new phone at the nearest store.”

“I thought of that, but maybe he doesn’t have the cash to drop on a new one.”

“So pay for it.”

“People are weird about stuff like that. Besides, do you really think I should point out the fact that he has the personal phone numbers of some of the wealthiest people in the country? We have no clue who this guy is.”

He made a face, but he knew I was right.

This was so so bad. My grandparents were going to kill me. “Oh my god, Honor, you have to call Grandma right away!”

He didn’t even hesitate, just reached for his phone and dialed. He knew how it was. If she didn’t hear that we were safe and sound very soon, she was going to start calling me. And the last thing the poor schmuck whose day I’d already ruined needed was to have Miriam Schulman-Daly hitting redial until she got a response.

“Don’t tell her a stranger has it! Tell her I left it at home!” I added to Honor in a rush, tugging on his arm to make sure he was paying attention.

He waved me off, but I thought I could trust him to give me this small bit of cover. While I waited for Honor to explain the situation, the phone buzzed with a new text message from my line.

Sorry if I was a jerk on the phone. I’m frustrated.

I replied, You weren’t. No apology necessary.

We’re stuck with each other for now. An apology is definitely necessary.

I’m the one who should be giving it. My stupid brother grabbed the wrong phone.

All right, so we’re mutually sorry and we can blame your brother, agreed?

I smiled. Who was this guy?

4/5 Review: Renegade by Lisa Bingham

Renegade is the second book in the Taggart Brothers series.  I haven’t read the first in the series, but I didn’t have any trouble keeping up with what was happening so this novel can be easily read as a stand-alone.  It was easy flowing and a nice afternoon read.

The couple in the story is Jace Taggart who has been sacrificing his own future ever since tragedy struck, he felt he had to take over the family business and look after his brothers.  Of course this is when the beautiful Bronte Cupacek arrives to town.  She has arrived in town after ending a painful marriage and the last thing on her mind is another man.

Secrets always have a way at coming out, which is exactly what happens to Jace and Bronte.  They both are the heads of their family unit and feel as if the weight of the world is on them.  They struggle with looking after their family, finding a way to forgive and open their heart to trust again.

It is a beautiful story about compassion while still having the storyline build enough that its both entertaining, endearing and has enough fireworks to keep the story moving.

I would recommend reading the first book before this which is exactly what I'm about to do.  Do yourself a favour and grab your copy today!
