The holiday season is a magical one and OMG... Carolyn Brown really brought that out in this story. We all know its hard to handle change and commitment, and in this book you will see how the characters handle it and their emotions that are all tied into it. And just because there are snow on the ground, doesn't mean we can wrangle ourselves a sexy cowboy. Plus, I am sure you are all wondering how does mistletoe have to do with these two characters, well all I can say is buy the book and see for yourself, you will not regret it.

Seeing is how I am posting this around Christmas time I thought it would be a great idea to add a little more. So here is the meaning behind Mistletoe.
http://www.theholidayspot.com/christmas/history/mistletoe.htm

Mistletoe

Mistletoe is especially interesting botanically because it is a partial parasite (a "hemiparasite"). As a parasitic plant, it grows on the branches or trunk of a tree and actually sends out roots that penetrate into the tree and take up nutrients. But mistletoe is also capable for growing on its own; like other plants it can produce its own food by photosynthesis. Mistletoe, however, is more commonly found growing as a parasitic plant. There are two types of mistletoe. The mistletoe that is commonly used as a Christmas decoration (Phoradendron flavescens) is native to North America and grows as a parasite on trees in the west as also in those growing in a line down the east from New Jersey to Florida. The other type of mistletoe, Viscum album, is of European origin. The European mistletoe is a green shrub with small, yellow flowers and white, sticky berries which are considered poisonous. It commonly seen on apple but only rarely on oak trees. The rarer oak mistletoe was greatly venerated by the ancient Celts and Germans and used as a ceremonial plant by early Europeans. The Greeks and earlier peoples thought that it had mystical powers and down through the centuries it became associated with many folklore customs.

The Plant :
Mistletoe is especially interesting botanically because it is a partial parasite (a "hemiparasite"). As a parasitic plant, it grows on the branches or trunk of a tree and actually sends out roots that penetrate into the tree and take up nutrients. But mistletoe is also capable for growing on its own; like other plants it can produce its own food by photosynthesis. Mistletoe, however, is more commonly found growing as a parasitic plant. The Greeks and earlier peoples thought that it had mystical powers and down through the centuries it became associated with many folklore customs.

The Mistletoe Magic :
From the earliest times mistletoe has been one of the most magical, mysterious, and sacred plants of European folklore. It was considered to bestow life and fertility; a protection against poison; and an aphrodisiac. The mistletoe of the sacred oak was especially sacred to the ancient Celtic Druids. On the sixth night of the moon white-robed Druid priests would cut the oak mistletoe with a golden sickle. Two white bulls would be sacrificed amid prayers that the recipients of the mistletoe would prosper. Later, the ritual of cutting the mistletoe from the oak came to symbolize the emasculation of the old King by his successor. Mistletoe was long regarded as both a sexual symbol and the "soul" of the oak. It was gathered at both mid-summer and winter solstices, and the custom of using mistletoe to decorate houses at Christmas is a survival of the Druid and other pre-Christian traditions. The Greeks also thought that it had mystical powers and down through the centuries it became associated with many folklore customs. In the Middle Ages and later, branches of mistletoe were hung from ceilings to ward off evil spirits. In Europe they were placed over house and stable doors to prevent the entrance of witches. It was also believed that the oak mistletoe could extinguish fire. This was associated with an earlier belief that the mistletoe itself could come to the tree during a flash of lightning. The traditions which began with the European mistletoe were transferred to the similar American plant with the process of immigration and settlement.

Kissing under the mistletoe :
Kissing under the mistletoe is first found associated with the Greek festival of Saturnalia and later with primitive marriage rites. They probably originated from two beliefs. One belief was that it has power to bestow fertility. It was also believed that the dung from which the mistletoe would also possess "life-giving" power. In Scandinavia, mistletoe was considered a plant of peace, under which enemies could declare a truce or warring spouses kiss and make-up. Later, the eighteenth-century English credited with a certain magical appeal called a kissing ball. At Christmas time a young lady standing under a ball of mistletoe, brightly trimmed with evergreens, ribbons, and ornaments, cannot refuse to be kissed. Such a kiss could mean deep romance or lasting friendship and goodwill. If the girl remained unkissed, she cannot expect not to marry the following year. In some parts of England the Christmas mistletoe is burned on the twelfth night lest all the boys and girls who have kissed under it never marry. Whether we believe it or not, it always makes for fun and frolic at Christmas celebrations. Even if the pagan significance has been long forgotten, the custom of exchanging a kiss under the mistletoe can still be found in many European countries as well as in Canada. Thus if a couple in love exchanges a kiss under the mistletoe, it is interpreted as a promise to marry, as well as a prediction of happiness and long life. In France, the custom linked to mistletoe was reserved for New Year's Day: "Au gui l'An neuf" (Mistletoe for the New Year). Today, kisses can be exchanged under the mistletoe any time during the holiday season.

The Legend :
For its supposedly mystical power mistletoe has long been at the center of many folklore. One is associated with the Goddess Frigga. The story goes that Mistletoe was the sacred plant of Frigga, goddess of love and the mother of Balder, the god of the summer sun. Balder had a dream of death which greatly alarmed his mother, for should he die, all life on earth would end. In an attempt to keep this from happening, Frigga went at once to air, fire, water, earth, and every animal and plant seeking a promise that no harm would come to her son. Balder now could not be hurt by anything on earth or under the earth. But Balder had one enemy, Loki, god of evil and he knew of one plant that Frigga had overlooked in her quest to keep her son safe. It grew neither on the earth nor under the earth, but on apple and oak trees. It was lowly mistletoe. So Loki made an arrow tip of the mistletoe, gave to the blind god of winter, Hoder, who shot it , striking Balder dead. The sky paled and all things in earth and heaven wept for the sun god. For three days each element tried to bring Balder back to life. He was finally restored by Frigga, the goddess and his mother. It is said the tears she shed for her son turned into the pearly white berries on the mistletoe plant and in her joy Frigga kissed everyone who passed beneath the tree on which it grew. The story ends with a decree that who should ever stand under the humble mistletoe, no harm should befall them, only a kiss, a token of love. What could be more natural than to translate the spirit of this old myth into a Christian way of thinking and accept the mistletoe as the emblem of that Love which conquers Death? Its medicinal properties, whether real or imaginary, make it a just emblematic of that Tree of Life, the leaves of which are for the healing of the nations thus paralleling it to the Virgin Birth of Christ.

Hunting the Siren by Jeffe Kennedy

Huntng the Siren
Oh my GOD-I need more! Very very sexy! Jeffe Kennedy pushed all my buttons with her short story Hunting the Siren. It is the 2nd book in the Blood Currency series. Along with having a great new twist of both vampires and humans fighting for survival it is also oh so very steamy. I'd give it a solid 5 rating-loved it!

As the world begins to crumble to ruins and humans are struggling to survive Kasar Kahn must travel to his sister's village to collect her and her family and take her to safety, but upon his arrival he finds that he is too late and the village has been ransacked. The villagers all dead-drained of their lifeblood including his sister's husband and children, only his pregnant sister is nowhere to be found. A chance look out the window and he sees the fiends responsible for the decimation of the village- a group of vampires calling themselves the Night Riders led by their vampire Queen, Immogen. It is her life he vows to take to avenge his sister and his vengeance upon the queen is his only reason for living. Finally he has found his way into her camp, but is now her unwilling pet.

Oceans Kiss-by JT Cheyanne

J.T. CheyanneLove-love-loved it! JT Cheyanne packs an enchanted punch with this short story and I look forward to hopefully being able to read many more works by this author. Generally I don't enjoy short stories as much as full lenght novels, but Cheyanne does a fantastic job of helping the reader get to know her characters and their situation as well as giving the feeling of knowing time passing even though she gives up much of the "filler" material to make it a short story she leaves out nothing that is absolutely necessary. Though to tell the truth, I really wish it was just one of those very abbreviated versions sent to publishers to get them to want to read the whole novel. I don't feel like it was actually missing anything; I just would have enjoyed spending more time with her characters. Definitely a 5 star read.

Seven year old Devan McDaniel catches the biggest break of her young life when a family vacation takes her to the Atlantic where she discovers the power that the ocean has over the mysterious debilitation that robs her of all senses. When ever she submerges herself within the salty depths she is returned to a world of coordination, feeling, and color. The only catch... its only a short term fix and she has to be sure to return to it's healing depths extremely regularly. So without hesitation her mother and father pull up roots and move to the coast.
One day while she is getting her daily fix she comes upon three dolphins whom she decides to call the Furies. They quickly befriend her and usually join her as soon as she hits the water every day.

Once Dominic Cole had retired from his career as an Elite SEAL he settled down in FL where planned to spend the majority of his time doing exactly the thing he loved the most-living in the ocean. Now Dominic is able to spend as much time as he likes in the ocean because he has snagged his dream job working as a marine biologist.

As luck would have it a mutual friend Sets Dominic and Devan up on a blind date. This is great for Devan and Dominic, because they can both explore their mutul love of the ocean and now she has someone who can teach her to dive and he gets to spend plenty of time with the enchanting beauty. That is until Dominic's SEAL past comes back to haunt him...

The Curse of Desire-by Eva Weston

CURSE OF DESIREA great short story that can be read in one sitting. The words themselves are pure poetry. That's not to say that there wasn't a hiccup here and there, but the writer definitely shows a ton of promise. I'd give it a 4.5 simply because there were a couple of places toward the end that I got really thrown off-still it's a decent short read.

John is cursed at birth for a henious crime committed by his father against the daught of a witch. Unfair though it may be he is born with metal spikes protruding from his back and shoulders like a porcupine. When his mother didn't survive his birth his father unable to bear the consequences of his actions takes his own life so John is forced to live a mostly solitary existance. That is, until he decides to take on an assistant to run his errands, and help clean his house. Hiring Angela could just be the bet decision of his life.

My Vampire Cover Model-by Karyn Gerrard

My Vampire Cover ModelWhen Deanna Brooks is dragged by her best friend to one of Deanna's Aunt Carol's book signings she is really pretty unenthusiastic-she still hadn't even read any of her aunt's books. She is equally unimpressed by the 'Vampire cover-god', Burney Sheridan that her friend gushes over. That is, until she falls into his arms and becomes the object of his utmost fascination.

Burn having become somewhat jaded with life as a lone wolf- has lately began wanting something more fulfilling. Then at one of the book signings he is making an appearance at he scents his mate of the soul. If only he could tell which of the numerous girls in the place it is. Then when she finally falls into his lap-literally-he finds himself having to fight his way past her hang-ups in hopes of making the connection.

This was a pretty cute read. I wasn't over the moon for it like I thought I was going to be when I read the blurb for it, but I enjoyed it none the less. Overall I would give it 4 stars.

The Last Man-by Cheryl Dragon

Cover for 'The Last Man'The Last Man is a yummy 1 Night Stand erotic short about two family court lawyers who though are always on opposing sides of the courtroom have struck up a relationship of sorts. The problem Jeff wants to resolve is that it is purely platonic and that is the way Monica intends to keep it no matter how bright the sparks between them. That is, until they win tickets for the 1 Night Stand agency run by Madame Eve-who always seems to know just how to make a match. Can Monica let go of her reservations caused by all of the duds in her past to see Jeff for the truly great guy he is?

Loved it! The book had a great flow. The background fit in with the build up and the steamy scenes were plentiful and detailed to perfection. Great short read-5 stars all the way ;)

Sudden Breakaway-by Jessica Subject

Sudden Breakaway is a 1Night Stand romantic short. It is about a woman named Paige Brown who is a headhunter for a top secret space agency that deals with the relationship between the aliens on other planets and Earth. When Paige signed her lifetime contract with her husband she thought she would always have his support, but when an accident happens that leaves him stranded on another planet he bails on her by hooking up with one of the aliens on that planet and serves her with divorce papers. Now she's on her own and doesn't really have the heart to continue pulling people into the organization, and of course it doesn't help that the last several recruiting missions have been a complete bust. Well not completely a bust as the last man she was sent to recruit, Jared, has given her plenty to fantasize over. But considering the fact that he has shut down all effort to recruit him; she will probably never see him again, and thus can't get an outlet for the overwhelming lust that he has thrown her into. Inspiration hits when she contacts Madam Eve of the 1Night Stand agency to set up one night of no strings attached sex.

The story started out really strong and I was digging the characters, but interest waned pretty quickly when the sex scene was over in pretty much one paragraph and then the author decided to focus more on the happily ever after rather than the heat of a the 1Night Stand philosophy. It may have flowed a little better for me if she had put what happened after the date night scene before the date night and ended it with the bang... : ) so to speak. It was still a decent read though, and would be good for those that don't care for intense erotic scenes in their books. Overall I would rate it a 3.5

Black Friday Blog Hop

Black Friday is the name given to the day following Thanksgiving Day in the United States, traditionally the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. On this day, most major retailers open extremely early and offer promotional sales to kick off the holiday shopping season, similar to Boxing Day sales in many Commonwealth Nations. Black Friday is not an official holiday, but many non-retail employers also observe this day as a holiday along with Thanksgiving, thereby increasing the number of potential shoppers.  It has routinely been the busiest shopping day of the year since 2005, although news reports, which at that time were inaccurate, have described it as the busiest shopping day of the year for a much longer period of time.

While the rest of the US is out handling the crowds, fighting for their holiday gifts, some of us like to stay in, shop online, or just ignore Black Friday all to together. This year, join us in our second annual Black Friday Blog Hop! It's a ONE DAY hop where we're giving away prizes, talking about books we love, and most likely  eating left over turkey :-)

The hop is November 23rd and is ONE DAY only.

And while we do that, we are EACH doing a giveaway. Yep. There will be over 200 giveaways on each blog hosted by that Author or Blogger.

But that's not all....

We have THREE grand prizes. You as a reader can go to EACH blog and comment with your email address and be entered to win. Yep, you can enter over 200 times! (All entries required an email address, so please provide them with your comment, 1 entry per reader/email)

Now what are those prizes?

1st Grand Prize: A Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet
2nd Grand Prize: A $75 Amazon or B&N Gift Card

Rev it Up by Julie Ann Walker

HE NEVER MISSES A TARGET
Jake Sommers “The Snake” earned his SEAL codename by striking with lethal force, quickly and quietly. He also broke Michelle Carter’s heart that exact same way. He only did it to keep her safe,--from him. Jake is determined four years later to try and get a second chance. But he realizes to get back into Michelle’s loving arms, he’s got to prove that he can take things real slow…

SHE AIMS TO MAKE HIM BEGMichelle Cater never forgave Jake for being cliché as to “love her and leave her.” When her brother who is head of the Black Knights elite ops agency, pisses off the wrong mobster, she’s got to do the unimaginable…putting her life back into Jake’s hands. Others my call him cold-blooded but she knows better. Once he is wrapped around her heart, he doesn’t plan to ever let her go…

Jaw dropping! Julie Ann Walker is an author I was just introduced to and well I am now hooked. If you are into a man in a uniform, and romance then this is definitely a book you need to pick up. These characters jump off the pages and I love how their situations are so surreal when it comes to what they go through could actually happen in everyday life. I will be personally recommending this book to all my book worm friends, and I recommend others pick it up as well.

Author Spotlight: Mandy Harbin

An Excerpt From SURROUNDED BY TEMPTATION
Copyright © MANDY HARBIN, 2012
All Rights Reserved, Amira Press, LLC.

When Krista opened the door and they stepped in to Rob’s cabin, Ariel kept her expression even…with great difficulty. Rob was shirtless and bound to a wooden chair. His worn jeans hung low and showed how cut he actually was. His legs were tied to the chair, too. God, his bare feet even looked sexy. But what was the hottest thing about him was his gaze. The way his eyes peered into her. Like they were already alone and he was ready to pounce.

Rob growled, showing fangs, and she gasped. She didn’t know they had fangs like that unless they’d already shifted. Maybe she should’ve gotten some additional information from Krista and Mikaela before walking into the lion’s den. Literally.
“Come,” Rob rasped. “Now.” His arms flexed within their bindings and Ariel went rigid, wondering if they’d hold.

Toby growled next to him, his eyes focused solely on his brother.

“We should get started,” Josh said.

“I-I have the medication right here.” Ariel started to step forward, but Josh threw his hand up, stopping her progression, and moved toward her, blocking her view from Rob.
And apparently Rob didn’t like that because a blood curdling roar came from his direction.

Krista squeaked and jumped next to her at the same time Josh stepped to the side, allowing Rob to see his fill. Toby’s head snapped in Krista’s direction at her distress, then whipped toward Rob. He crouched in front of his brother, a menacing growl slipping pass his lips. Ariel shivered. For some reason the softer growl from Toby sounded more deadly and a hell of a lot more terrifying than the loud roar Rob made.

Rob hissed at Toby and wiggled in his chair, struggling to get free.

Josh stepped up and took the syringe from Ariel. “I’ll do you. You stay here.

When Ariel starting giving Josh the instructions, Rob’s gaze flew to her, snarling. She quickly finished the steps Josh needed to administer the medication and watched as he approached Rob from the side, making sure to not to block his view of Ariel.
She watched as Josh bent in front of Rob and blindly handed the needle over to Toby. When Josh grabbed the hem of Rob’s jeans, Ariel swallowed. There was no turning back now. She watched in rapt fascination as Josh unfastened Rob’s jeans and slowly slid the zipper down so he could get to the injection site.

“Damn,” Ariel breathed when Rob’s rock hard erection sprang free. He was freaking huge!
Rob had been making low growls and hisses at his brother as he worked the closure on his jeans, but when Ariel spoke, his attention snapped back to her. His growl got softer, broken. What the… Is he purring?

“I think he likes that you find his, um, member impressive,” Krista whispered.

Toby looked at Krista and growled. “You shouldn’t be looking. You only look at me.”
Ariel watched as her sister fought a smile. But she turned to the side, giving her back to them. “Better, sweetie?”

His next growl sounded more like a groan. “I love your ass.”
She wiggled it and the animalistic sound got louder, playful.

“Chill you two,” Mikaela said, then turned to Ariel, “Just like a couple of newlyweds.” She shook her head but smiled. “I think that’s good, Josh.”

“Okay, kitten. I want you and the other ladies to stay over there until we’re sure he won’t break free and the drugs are working.” Josh lifted his arm, needle poised for entry.
“Wait!” Ariel shrieked and quickly stepped forward. She needed to gather as much data as she could. “Can you tell me how you feel?” she asked Rob softly.

“Why don’t you grab my dick and tell me how I feel?”

“No.”

Rob roared. “That wasn’t a request. You will submit to me. You are mine.”

Without warning, Josh stabbed the needle into Rob’s hip. Rob yelped and hissed at his brother.
Ariel watched him as he struggled in his chair, trying to break free, growling and hissing at everyone, at no one.

Then minutes later, his movements eased, his head falling back as he gasped in air, sweat trickling down his temple. No one moved for what seemed like an eternity. Ariel just watched. Waited.

Rob slowly moved his head, his eyes seeking her. She held her breath as he found her, eager to hear him now that he’d received his first dose.
“I-I think I’m okay.”

“Do you feel like you need to mate with her?” Josh asked.

Rob frowned. “I believe I have control of myself. My lion.”

Ariel stepped closer and Toby tensed beside Rob.
“Can you tell me how you feel now?”

Rob chuckled. “I guess I can’t give you the same answer as before, huh?”

Ariel laughed nervously. He seemed relaxed. He wasn’t growling or hissing or fighting his restraints. She quickly scanned his body. Mostly relaxed. His penis was still fully erect. She turned to Josh. “Take his vital signs. Let’s make sure he’s not about to have a heart attack before I continue.” She dug into her bag, pulling out a swab kit. “And here, take this and swab the inside of his cheek while you’re at it.”

Josh worked quickly as Ariel watched. The three brothers seemed to be staring at each other intently. Then she saw an infinitesimal shake of Rob’s head.
“They’re speaking telepathically.”

Ariel nodded. A few weeks ago she was knee deep in compost and now she was about to be on her knees... um, yeah. She knew. Her nerves were back in full force now that Rob seemed to be doing well under the medication.
“This is amazing!” Josh said as he clapped Rob on the back. “You seem healthy as a horse. I can’t believe you’re not trying to fight to get to her anymore.”

“Let’s not do a victory dance yet,” Ariel warned. “This is all part of the process.”
“Right, of course,” Josh said, grinning. He looked at Rob and chuckled. Then he looked at his mate. “I think we can go.”

“C’mon, Krista,” Mikaela said. “We need to get Jack medicated, too.”
Toby watched Rob, eyes narrowing. “You’re sure you’re in control? If you hurt one hair on her head, I will make you bleed. Understood?”

Rob nodded.
Toby straightened and walked toward Krista. “I can stay. Whatever she’s going to do, I can watch from the other side of the room to make sure he doesn’t do anything to hurt her. She’s very tiny and he’s incredibly strong.”

Ariel’s face got really hot all of the sudden. No way in hell did she want a witness to this next part. She glanced at Rob, trying to think of something quickly to say that’d keep her from having an audience.
Rob’s head cocked to the side as he watched her. Without looking away, he said, “That won’t be necessary, bro.”

Toby made a frustrated sound at the back of his throat. His eyes on his mate. “It’s your call, baby.”
Krista looked at Ariel. Ariel hoped the pleading in her eyes was working.

“Let’s go, sweetie, and leave her to her work.”
Ariel sighed, relieved.

Toby’s shoulders relaxed as he wound his arm around his mate. “Okay.”
“You will let us know the minute you need something, anything. Right?” Krista gave Ariel a stern look, and Ariel nodded.

“Good luck,” Mikaela said, a small smile playing at her lips as she and Josh left. Krista and Toby left right behind them. Her sister looked one last time over her shoulder before shutting the door.
Ariel was now alone with Rob. The relieved feeling from moments ago now gone. There really was no backing out. The compound had worked. She’d seen it with her own eyes. He was virile and determined to have her one minute then lucid and calm the next. Still sexy has hell though. God, she needed to let that thought go. Rob was hot, not doubt about that, but she was here to do a job. A job she was beginning to wonder if she could keep herself detached in order to complete.

Just do it.

She walked toward Rob. He watched her. Eyes not animalistic. Teeth not fangs. Just watched like someone who was curious about what movie was showing at the theater. But as she got closer, she noticed the muscles in his forearms corded. There seemed to be more lurking behind the surface than his calm curiosity.
“Um, okay.” Her voice cracked, so she took a steadying breath. “This is a bit unorthodox—“

“Compared to what? The family of werewolves who live in Dallas?” Ariel gasp and he chuckled. “Kidding, angel.”
She laughed nervously, realizing that part of her nerves was due to how attractive this man was. This would be so much easier if he were hideous, like a mangy old alley cat, missing an eye and covered in bald patches.

“Right, well, unorthodox is subjective in this sense.” She took a few steps closer. Now he had to tilt his head up to look at her. “What I mean is the way I’m going to test the effectiveness of this drug and your endurance to it isn’t what I’d call standard protocol.”

“I’ll do whatever you want.”
Ariel cleared her throat and shifted her weight to her other leg, stalling. Here goes nothing. She stepped right up into his personal space. “Do you find me attractive?”

A small growl rumbled in his chest, but he didn’t let it out. “Incredibly. You’re the sexiest woman I’ve ever seen, and animal or not, I would love nothing more than to be buried deep inside you.”
Good. If only his animal side wanted her, then she wasn’t sure how well this testing method would work. She smiled at him, her tongue slipping out to wet her lips. Rob watched as she traced her upper lip, and he moaned softly.

“I’m going to tease you, Rob. You’ll be surrounded by temptation greater than any you’ve ever experienced. I’m going to drive you so insane with want that you’ll be begging me for it.”

Cold Stone Charade by Kathleen Royce

Alexandra Stone, was born into a family of immense wealth and challenges her legacy by leading a double life as an international superstar. She is stunned to find out a teenage nemesis is now responsible for the hounding reporters and she can’t escape them. There’s so many lies between them, could she keep track of them all?

An ex-special ops commander Ty Philips has been called to handle a threat of rustlers, suspecting Maximillion wants him to deal with his spirited granddaughter. But he decides to launch his very own mission to get her into his bed only if its temporary. The danger to the ranch and her jeopardizes everything, so does his conscience at the fact he’s seducing the boss’ granddaughter yet again.

Now they are trying to rekindle the passion from their past, setting ablaze a new raging path for them both in the present. Both are afraid their own personal secrets could ruin what they have, causing it to blow up in their faces. Can they handle this inferno and the possible consequences of igniting it?

I absolutely love this story! We all wonder what it would be like to live a double life. Normal to the world and then having a side of you that everyone knows.
