5/5 Review: Mulberry Moon by Catherine Anderson

After a career on the rodeo circuit, Ben Sterling longs to settle down on his farm and start a family like his brothers. He’s searched all over for the woman of his dreams. Yet the only one to spark his interest is the new owner of the local café. Getting her attention, however, won’t be easy.

Sissy Sue Bentley has worked hard to make it on her own, and she doesn’t need another man in her life. From her alcoholic father to the men she’s dated, who were after only one thing, they are nothing but trouble. Except Ben keeps showing up whenever she really needs help. Sissy struggles to deny her growing feelings for him—but soon Ben’s tender concern has her hoping for a happier future. Then her past comes barreling back into her life, and it will take more than the love in Ben’s heart to hold them together.

**********

Whenever I pick up a Catherine Anderson book I know I will have a wonderful time revisiting friends in Mystic Creek. She never disappoints me! In this awesome installment, life in Mystic Creek is about the romance of Ben Sterling and Sissy Sue Bentley.Ben Sterling is an ex rodeo star who is ready to settle down on his farm. Sissy Sue Bentley has worked hard to make it on her own, and she doesn’t need another man in her life. As crises continue to arise, she comes to rely on Ben’s support…and waits for the other shoe to drop. Because there is no way he wants only for which he asks—her love.

I enjoyed getting to know the characters in this town and felt like it was a place that I would love to visit. Sissy Sue, the heroine, seemed like a very nice person and one that anyone would like to know. However, I really didn't bond with her like I did with Ben. From the very first, I felt for Ben who just wanted a family. I loved how the relationship between Ben and Sue unfolded slowly and cautiously and didn't resort to the "love at first sight" and "immediate sex" that too many books are now calling romance. Too many times when the "hot romance" book ends I am left wondering how long the couple will actually be together. With this book, you somehow know that the answer to that question will be....forever.

Catherine Anderson is a great writer, able to make you laugh and cry as you read her stories. The emotions of her characters are real, the relationships ring true and the interspersed descriptions of Mystic Creek will transport you there for a great romantic escape! Give yourself a treat and grab a cup of hot cocoa and settle back with the folks from Mystic Creek! You won't regret it!

4/5 Review: Make Me by Beth Kery

Harper McFadden established herself as an investigative journalist by being both compassionate and fearless. After tragedy strikes her family, she moves to the shores of Lake Tahoe to find some peace. But when mysterious software mogul Jacob Latimer enters her life, her thoughts turn from her own healing to an insatiable desire to get closer to him...

No one knows what secrets lurk in the past of Jacob Latimer. He built his corporation from nothing, but rumors abound about his mysterious rise to power. Harper is the last person he should let into his life. She could expose the truth about his origins. But Jacob knows things about Harper’s past that draw him in. He wants nothing more than to make her his—and Jacob is a man who always gets what he wants...

**********

Make Me was originally released as an eight part serial, this is the serial in it's entirety.  It is a standalone erotic romance.  We meet Harper McFadden and Jacob Latimer on a beach in Tahoe Shore.  Harper has just taken a job as newspaper editor to get away from the stress of investigative journalism and to heal from the recent death of her parents.  Jacob well he is a reclusive billionaire - with a hidden past that we learn about through the story and he knows Harper who has no recollection of who he is.

The story is told by both characters through dreams, memories and present day.  It's a second chance romance of sorts even though they were both children.  One with memories and the other with none (it seems that her father was able to wipe the sordid details away.)

Ms. Kery, entwines the past and present beautifully.  We learn about each character and the story will keep you guessing as to the final outcome.  Her story lines are solid, her characters are strong.  The erotic aspect of the novel  doesn't take away from the forward motion.

If you are in the market for a wonderfully written, story with a bit of mystery and a bit of a different twist on a second chance romance, I highly recommend Make Me!

5/5 Review: The Wedding Sisters by Jamie Brenner

As with Jamie Brenner's previous books, the style is so engaging that I just didn't really care where the plot was going. She can spend pages and pages describing the decorating scheme for a foyer and somehow make it compelling, at least to anyone who loves decorating, antiques, and old houses. I love the relationships in Meryl Becker life, particularly with her daughters. The story is light- funny and we laughed out loud with some of the antics of the main character. It is also filled with very descriptive elements of the daughters lives.

The story is fresh and funny, and it was so much more. It’s always been a mother’s dream to see her daughter get married but what happens when all three of her daughters find themselves getting engaged around the same time to prominent males. We know things can so wrong with one wedding, can you imagine what situations can happen with three weddings?

This is a story of family and history and forgiveness and most of all love. We learn so much about this family's life
Mary goes through life on a superficial level with her inner most thoughts never expressed to anyone. She is honest with those she loves, but she does not share her entire self. And eventually her inner most thoughts appear and create havoc in the lives of several people.

This is a well developed plot, and the characters are complete people. For any reader who wants a story of life and difficult situations which must be faced, this is a book you will enjoy. Ms. Brenner has a way with a story and I recommend this book to all readers who love to be immersed in a story.

I did not find this a fun, light read, which is what I though from the blurb, there is lots of drama and emotions in the telling of this this story. This is the story about family, love and life and how things never really go as planned. I highly recommend this book.

5/5 Review: His All Night by Elle Wright

In relationships, Calisa Harper has clear rules: no expectations, no commitments, no one gets hurt. She doesn't need a diamond ring to bring her happiness. She just needs Jared. Fine, fit, and ferocious in bed, Jared is Calisa's ideal combination of friend and lover. But the no-strings status they've shared for years is about to get very tangled.

Jared Williams is the kind of man most women long for: sexy, successful, and ready to settle down. He knows convincing the commitment-phobic Calisa that forever is nothing to fear won't be easy-especially when his ex turns up with a daughter she never told him about. In a heartbeat, Jared and Calisa's passion goes from fiery to fragile. He wants to hold on to the love they share but is terrified that their next night together could be their last . . .

**********

Elle Wright made me laugh, cry, and feel all the emotions in between with this one single book. His All Night is like a true, honest story about a boy and a girl who start out as friends with added benefits then somewhere down the road that line got blurred on both sides. Adding the back history of Calisa with her past and Jared’s current situation you have a recipe for complications. Two scenes that hit me the hardest in both a good way and a sad way. Wright brings real life situations to life through this romance story. It makes you wonder how many people actually go through what Cali and Jared did. It leaves a bit of wonder about the next book and what could possibly happen to these two. His All Night is one book that can bring you absolute joy while reading.

5/5 Review: Never Tear Us Apart by Monica Murphy

Crazy how eight years can disappear in an instant. One look at Katie Watts, and I'm a fifteen-year-old again--the one who risked everything to save a terrified girl from her twisted kidnapper. She's grown-up now--beautiful, quiet, composed--and telling her story to the world. A story that involves me in more ways than you can imagine. She used to call me her guardian angel. Sure, I risked my life, but she was worth dying for.

I need to make contact with her. Just to ensure that she's safe.

Somehow we reconnect. We become friends . . . but I want more. I want to make her mine. And she wants me too. Does she know who I am? Has she figured me out? Not yet. But she will. In the meantime, I need to make sure that whatever hold that animal had on her is gone.

So, yeah, I'm stealing these moments with her. Savoring them. Knowing, dreading, that she'll soon find out who I really am. And everything will fall apart. All because of that twisted, perverted monster sitting on death row. Her kidnapper. A convicted serial killer.

My father.

**********

Katie Watts has a very traumatic childhood. She was kidnapped and abused both mentally and sexually. Eight years later she is trying her best to lead as normal of a life as she can. She secludes herself from the outside world. She doesn’t speak to anyone she doesn’t know. She doesn’t go out and have fun with friends. She no longer has any anyway. That all changes when she meets Ethan, something about him brings out the person she wishes she could be. She starts to enjoy life. Ethan may know her past and who she is, but little does she know who the man is that is slowly stealing her heart.
When I first saw what this book was about I was hesitant on how I would feel reading a book with such a sensitive subject matter. Monica Murphy did a really good job explaining what happened to Katie without going into details that would make people extremely uneasy. It didn’t take me long to be sucked into the story and have to know what happened to poor Katie. A child being kidnapped, held prisoner, and abused both physically and mentally at such a young age. The story bounces back and forth between Katie and Ethan both resent and past selves.
Fast forward to after she is rescued by the son of the man who took her. She has this connection with him from that the moment he saved her. They have a connection that never seems to go completely away for either of them. I loved watching a relationship grow when they meet again as adults. She's never been able to trust anyone especially a man. She finds it hard to function in normal situations. But she feels safe with him and can let herself go and not be that scared of life little girl anymore. I wanted to see the relationship keep growing but he was keeping who he really was from her. Little did she know that the man she was spending all this time with was actually that boy that saved her those years ago. It made me crazy that he wouldn’t tell her, but how could he without chasing her away?  Ethan keeps this secret from her because he has this urge to be close to her that he can't fight. He wants to make sure she is safe.
She finally finds out who he really is right at the end of the book. I can't wait for the second part of this story to come out so I can find out what happens! I'm hooked on the drama and love story of Ethan and Katie.

4/5: All They Ever Wanted by Tracy Solheim

All he ever fought for...
Aspiring congressman Miles McAlister has dreamed of representing his hometown of Chances Inlet, North Carolina, since he was a boy. So when he’s asked to help run his mother’s bed and breakfast he moves home and rolls out his campaign at the same time. But political stardom isn’t a given, especially when he’s expected to compromise the very ideals he’s trying to uphold. Making matters worse is the inn’s stubborn, and distractingly beautiful cook. He’s loved and lost before, so falling for Lori Hunt is not part of his plan.

All she ever feared...

Lori just wants to do her job and be left alone until she can safely move on. The last thing she needs is to get involved with her boss’s son. Miles proves to be too sexy to ignore, however.  Their heated fling elicits feelings deeper than either anticipated. But everything about Lori is a lie. She’s harboring a secret that’ll destroy Miles’s career, and when the truth gets out it’s going to shock Chances Inlet to its core, forcing Miles to make the hardest decision of his life.

**********

Lori is working in a B & B trying to keep a low profile and just do her job. Her stay in Chances Inlet is only temporary. She can't tell anyone who she really is.  So when she meets Miles she knows she needs to keep her distance and not let herself give in to the thoughts she has in her head about what she really wants.
Miles is campaigning for a spot to represent his hometown in congress. He's busy trying to help his mother run her B & B while she is recovering from an accident. So between the B & B and his campaign he doesn’t have time for anything or anyone else. At first he thinks Lori is hiding something and tries to figure out what it is. The more he talks to her the more he can't resist her and wants her. Before they really know what is going on they find themselves in the middle of a fling. A fling that turns out to be so much more than either of them ever expected.
I had a hard time getting into this book. I felt like I had to force myself to read it. Lori's character kept thinking to herself about how she shouldn’t get to know anyone and shouldn’t do this or that. It was a little repetitive in my opinion.  Aside from that I liked her character. I also liked the character of Miles, but not at first. I didn't really like him until about halfway through the book. Once they started having a relationship of sorts that’s when the book started getting good for me. In the beginning he kept accusing her of being a part of the theft that was happening in the Inn. But as the reader you knew she wasn’t behind it. So after he started believing her is when he started to be more likable.
The book doesn't have very detailed sex scenes. So If you like sex scenes for days this book might not be for you. I didn’t mind the lack of details when it came to the sex scenes. Sometimes for me it's nice to read a book that doesn’t have four or more pages of just sex. I like a story line. I was expecting the reason for Lori's hidden identity to be a little more shocking. Turns out her father was part of the money scam that affected Mile's family. She didn't do anything wrong, but she had went to her father to try and get him to fess up. When she did that he took off and made her an accessory to the crime. So she goes into hiding to avoid prison time. I am glad that I stuck to the book and finished it.

3/5 Review A SEAL Forever by Anne Elizabeth

Even a hero needs someone to believe in him...

Parkour instructor Maura Maxwell has always denied her attraction for her bachelor neighbor because she's seen his revolving door of women and doesn't want to become another notch on his belt. But the man who rescues her from a sudden storm isn't the one she thinks she knows-he's Master Chief Declan Swifton of SEAL Team Five, and he literally sweeps Maura off her feet.

Just as his teasing and tenderness start to work their way into Maura's heart, Declan and his team are called in for a dangerous op in the Middle East. The man who returns is facing the toughest fight of his life, and he needs Maura by his side more than ever...

**********
A SEAL Forever is the 3rd book in the West Coast Navy SEALs series by Anne Elizabeth.  I believe you could read this as a stand alone book, if you havent read the other books in the series but to gain more of a connection to the characters it would probably be better to read in order.  This is the only book ive read in this series, but it was still easy to follow and didnt feel like there was a lot missing.
The story surrounds Maura Maxwell who is trying to rebuild her life after a terrible car accident.  She was going to be a career gymnast but everything changed with the crash.  Declan Swifton has spent his living and preparing for SEAL life.  To him, that is life until he rescues a drowning Maura and he starts to question his carefree life of keeping fit and one night women.
I found this story to be one of those cute little stories that you knew what was going to happen but the fun of it was watching it all unfold and seeing how they held each other up in the bad times and just how good they were together.  The dynamics of the book was a little on the soft side at times but still a great book to read.

4/5 Review: Silver Lining by Debbie Macomber

Since opening the Rose Harbor Inn, Jo Marie Rose has grown close to her handyman, Mark Taylor. Jo Marie and Mark are good friends—and are becoming something more—yet he still won’t reveal anything about his past. When Mark tells her that he’s moving out of town, Jo Marie is baffled. Just when she is starting to open herself up again to love, she feels once more that she is losing the man she cares about. And as she discovers the secret behind Mark’s decision to leave, she welcomes two visitors also seeking their own answers.

Best friends Kellie Crenshaw and Katie Gilroy have returned to Cedar Cove for their ten-year high school reunion, looking to face down old hurts and find a sense of closure. Kellie, known as Coco, wants to finally confront the boy who callously broke her heart. Katie, however, wishes to reconnect with her old boyfriend, James—the man she still loves and the one who got away. As Katie hopes for a second chance, Coco discovers that people can change—and both look to the exciting possibilities ahead.

**********

Debbie Macomber is one of my favorite authors for relaxing reading. I've read all of the Blossom Street books, and many of the Cedar Cove books. As a few other reviewers have noted, 'Silver Linings' is not a fast paced story, especially in the first chapters. One problem is that the story shifts from first person in chapter one, to second person in subsequent chapters, with first person thrown in again here and there. That's not easily done and can snag a story's flow. Also, (early on in particular) the 'characters ' repetitious thoughts made it too easy for me to lose interest in them; it took quite awhile before they began to grow/develop enough to catch my attention.

There are several reasons why I didn’t rate this book higher. 1) Jo Marie’s story is told in her own voice. Whereas Coco and Katie’s vignettes are in third person. This was distracting and the transitions were jarring. 2) The story centers mostly on the events at the high school reunion with too much immature high school-like dramas. 3) Coco’s confrontation with her ghost was short-lived and anticlimactic. And, her encounter with an old crush immediately following her “healing” was a little too picture perfect.

This was a great story, as is all of the Rose Harbor series have been. I enjoyed revisiting old faces and meeting new people. Debbie Macomber does a wonderful job of using multiple characters without confusion. The entire story read like I was really part of their lives and it was hard to put down. I liked how she tied up some loose ends, but left enough to ensure that any true fan will be drooling until they can get the final installment of the Rose Harbor series. I definitely recommend this book.

Zoe Stone lives in Sunshine, Idaho where she is a pilot for hire. Her life is thrown for a loop when she has her brother’s friend Parker comes to stay with her for a couple of weeks. Sparks between them fly like crazy and it only gets hotter between the two of them when she has to fly Parker around so he can collect evidence on suspected smugglers. Zoe and Parker not only live together but end up working together too. She happens to see a different side of him, which intrigues her immensely. Though he likes to give his opinion about her blind dates, she begins to realize it is only Parker that gets her motors running.

When I first picked up this book I never put it down. I can honestly say this book is beyond words fantastic. The characters seem so life like and made me feel like I actually knew them on a personal level. The words just flowed and it allowed you to feel and understand on a deep level the character’s personalities. Jill Shalvis made a strong women fall in love with a stronger man, and those relationships are always hot and steamy. It was like I was watching a good movie in my imagination with how well written this story was. Jill Shalvis is one author I enjoy reading on a daily basis, and this is not the first book I have read of hers that I couldn’t put down. All I Want is an amazing read that everyone should get their hands on.

5/5 Review: The Story of Us by Dani Atkins

Emma is just days from marrying her childhood sweetheart, Richard. But what should be the happiest time of Emma’s life takes a turn for the worse when, on the night of her bachelorette party, tragedy strikes. Thanks to some quick thinking from a stranger, Emma is pulled free from a totaled car before it goes up in flames. But another passenger is not so lucky.

The wedding is postponed as family and friends deal with their shock and grief. But soon, secrets come to light that have Emma questioning her relationships—and her engagement. Making matters more complicated is the emotional connection she feels with Jack, the mysterious man who saved her life. It’s a crisis no bridal magazine has ever covered: What do you do when, on the eve of your wedding, you find yourself in love with two men?

**********

On her way home from her bachelorette party Emma is involved in a car accident with her two best friends Caroline and Aimee. One doesn't survive, but that fateful night she is saved from the car wreckage my Jack. He takes care of her until her fiance whom has been at his bachelor party shows up at the hospital. Emma has an emotional connection to Jack and leans on him for support. Richard and Emma - agree to postpone their wedding and secrets start to unravel around her. Emma finds herself loving two men, one is safe and known and the other isn't.

I will start if you aren't into books about cheating - this one isn't so don't lose interest. It's more a story of discovering yourself and whom you chose forever with. Emma doesn't flit between the Richard and Jack - she finds a different kind of solace in each.
Ms. Atkins, weaves a splendid story of friendship, love, and self awaking. Woven in is the tender subject of alzheimer's, which added to the realism.I found the story enthralling and lost a bit of sleep and then was shocked by the ending. I didn't see it coming but it was a pleasant difference.
If you are in the market for a well-rounded romance I would highly recommend this one.

5/5 Review: The Bourbon Kings by J.R. Ward

For generations, the Bradford family has worn the mantle of kings of the bourbon capital of the world. Their sustained wealth has afforded them prestige and privilege—as well as a hard-won division of class on their sprawling estate, Easterly. Upstairs, a dynasty that by all appearances plays by the rules of good fortune and good taste. Downstairs, the staff who work tirelessly to maintain the impeccable Bradford facade. And never the twain shall meet.

For Lizzie King, Easterly’s head gardener, crossing that divide nearly ruined her life. Falling in love with Tulane, the prodigal son of the bourbon dynasty, was nothing that she intended or wanted—and their bitter breakup only served to prove her instincts were right. Now, after two years of staying away, Tulane is finally coming home again, and he is bringing the past with him. No one will be left unmarked: not Tulane’s beautiful and ruthless wife; not his older brother, whose bitterness and bad blood know no bounds; and especially not the ironfisted Bradford patriarch, a man with few morals, fewer scruples, and many, many terrible secrets.

As family tensions—professional and intimately private—ignite, Easterly and all its inhabitants are thrown into the grips of an irrevocable transformation, and only the cunning will survive.

**********

I love J.R. Ward and will read anything that she writes. I have read  Black Dagger Brotherhood & The Fallen Angels series several times. There is no doubt that she can tell one heck of a story. I actually read the book twice, reason being that it was hard to get into the first time, but I think that was because I am used to reading the Black Daggerhood Series. The second time I read it, I was able to appreciate  the Characters ,especially Lane. This book has the making of a night time soap opera such as Dynasty!!!  It has everything that makes a good book, Cheating husbands & wives, Injured heirs, Arranged marriages, Death, Lies, and when I say Lies, I do mean LIES!!! The Characters are spoiled, over-indulged, self-absorbed adults surrounded by incredible wealth. Like I said a Perfect Night Time Soap Opera.

If I  could give this book 10 stars, I would. I have anticipated the release of J.R. Ward's latest book for what seems like forever. I was not disappointed. I won't give a synopsis since others already have. I'll just say that I loved every minute I spent reading this novel and haven't stopped thinking about the characters all day. My only regret is that I finished it too fast the first time. This book was good, laughed, cried, goosebumps, sometimes I couldn’t put it down and other times I could. The thing I loved most about this book was the dynamics between the family . You know that feeling when you finish a book and want to know every single thing about the characters after the book finishes?  I loved the sappy stuff, I loved the bad times and the good times. I loved it all. Definitely will read this series!

5/5 Review:Stealing Rose by Monica Murphy

Perfect for fans of Christina Lauren and Emma Chase—the second novel in New York Times bestselling author Monica Murphy’s sizzling series about three powerhouse sisters and the men who would have their hearts.

People say the youngest child has it easy, but nothing can be further from the truth. Unlike my two sisters, Violet and Lily, I’m never in the limelight. I just work my butt off for Fleur Cosmetics and get little to no thanks for it. I’ve been pushed too far one too many times, and I’m finally brave enough to do something about it.
Maybe my newfound courage has something to do with the amazing pink and white diamond necklace I wear to the party in Cannes. The instant those dazzling heirloom jewels touch my skin, they excite some deep, aching need inside. And when that guy—that totally gorgeous guy—locks eyes with me, I know this nice girl is going to be naughty.
For once it’s my turn. My turn to say no to my father, to outshine my sisters, to walk away from it all—straight into the arms of a mysterious stranger. But what if Caden is much more than I bargained for? Sure, he makes me feel sexy and free in a way I never have before, but there’s something else I can’t quite place—something dangerous. Maybe our “chance” meeting wasn’t so random. Maybe he was looking for me for a reason. Whatever his motive, there’s no going back now.
And maybe I don’t want to.

**********

This is book two of the Fowler Sisters series.  The book is about Rose the youngest

and feels very left out, out of place and not knowing where her place is in the family
business Fleur Cosmetic. She and her sisters are all very beautiful and powerful but she
just doesn’t feel like she fits in so she leaves and gets involved with Caden. Now Caden
is a thief out to get something from Rose, but with their sexual escape from the world,
dare he chance breaking them up with the terrible truth.

I liked all the emotions that were going on with Rose and how she was dealing with
them.  There was definitely hot sexy scenes and you came to understand why Caden was
who he was and why he was doing bad things.  Monica Murphy has written this great
series and I am going to make sure I read the other two books.
