3/5 Review: The Dirt on 9th Grave by Darynda Jones

This is the 9th installment in Darynda Jones' Charley Davidson series.  I will say that I may have rated the book higher had I read the other 8 - being said guess it's not a stand alone - I was a bit lost in the beginning.  However, Ms. Jones' writing will have you laughing out loud.

I suppose that the humor is what has been used to even out the horrible past that Charley has had, and helps her stay positive life stance.  She is strong a bit frivolous on the way she handles situations much to my frustration and Reyes as well.

Reyes is Charley's love interest and it was fun watching them fall in love (I suppose again).  This installment begins with the fact that Charley has lost her memory and landed herself in Sleepy Hollow, NY.  With all the supporting characters from the previous books along for the ride.

Ms. Jones' writing is fluid, her characters are well-developed, and her plot lines keep the story moving forward.  I will say at this point again, it's not a stand alone! I recommend reading the series from the beginning.  But, I feel that if you are looking for a sexy at times, humorous to the point of strange looks from the snorts of laughter in public, well developed series - I recommend giving this one a go.

5/5 Review: Eighth Grave After Dark by Darynda Jones

With twelve hellhounds after her, pregnant Charley Davidson takes refuge at the only place she thinks they can't get to her: the grounds of an abandoned convent. But after months of being cooped up there, Charley is ready to pop. Both metaphorically and literally since she is now roughly the size of a beached whale. Fortunately, a new case has captured her attention, one that involves a murder on the very grounds the team has taken shelter upon. A decades-old murder of the newly-vowed nun she keeps seeing in the shadows is almost enough to pull her out of her doldrums.

Charley's been forbidden to step foot off the sacred grounds. While the angry hellhounds can't traverse the consecrated soil, they can lurk just beyond its borders. They have the entire team on edge, especially Reyes. And if Charley didn't know better, she would swear Reyes is getting sick. He grows hotter with every moment that passes, his heat scorching across her skin every time he's near, but naturally he swears he's fine.

While the team searches for clues on the Twelve, Charley just wants answers and is powerless to get them. But the mass of friends they've accrued helps. They convince her even more that everyone in her recent life has somehow been drawn to her, as though they were a part of a bigger picture all along. But the good feelings don't last for long because Charley is about to get the surprise of her crazy, mixed-up, supernatural life….

**********

I want to start off by saying..... I can't believe what I have missed.  This is the eighth installment of the series and I was afraid I wouldn't be able to follow along since it is my first time reading on of Darynda's books.  I have to say that getting thrown into the action as I was, was both exciting and a little overwhelming.  I definitely need to read the first seven books as I know that it will only increase my love for this series.

Charley's character is so we developed it is ridiculous.  I felt as if every time she spoke or did some thing I was hearing or seeing it as if it were really happening.  Another favorite is of course Reyes.  Reyes, to me is the ultimate fantasy.  His character is so delicious it's bad.  He is a typical male.  He has his stubbornness.  I kept getting frustrated with him every time he denied something was wrong.

I recommend this story not only to Supernatural fans but those who love a great story.  I am in need of the first seven books then it's off to the ninth for me.  Darynda Jones is now on my list of amazing authors.
