How to Marry a Cowboy by Carolyn Brown Spotlight & Review

Carolyn Brown's Cowboys & Brides Series Spotlight - Living On A Ranch: First Impressions

As the saying goes, everything is bigger in Texas. This is certainly true when it comes to the large ranches spread throughout the state. In Carolyn Brown's Cowboy & Brides series, the heroines new to ranch living all have different impressions of the place they will soon call home. Here’s a rundown of several reactions to first seeing a Texas-sized ranch.

Texas rancher Mason Harper's daughters want a new mama in the worst way, and when a beautiful woman in a tattered wedding gown appears on their doorstep, the two little girls adopt her-no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Mason isn't sure about taking in a complete stranger, but Lord knows he needs a nanny, and Annie Rose Boudreau stirs his heart in long-forgotten ways...
Annie Rose is desperate, and when a tall, sexy cowboy offers her a place to stay, she can't refuse. After all, it's just for a little while. As she settles in deeper, her heart tells her both Mason and her role as makeshift mama suit her just fine. But will Mason feel the same way once her nightmare past catches up with her?
Fans of Linda Lael Miller and Diana Palmer will thrill to this moving story of a lonely cowboy and his two little girls finding the family of their dreams.

#1 - Intimidation

A huge ranch with thousands of acres and an oversized house can make a person want to crawl back into a hidey hole and pull a rock over the hole. This is the way it goes for Laura Baker in Billion Dollar Cowboy. Everyone in the whole state knows how rich Colton Nelson is. Lord, all the single women in the state are trying to get him into bed, and the rest are considering talking to a divorce lawyer so they can have a try at lassoing him. All Laura wants to do is her job and get away from all those dollar signs. But then someone comes up with the idea of her to pretend to be Colton's girlfriend to keep the other women at bay and all of the sudden sparks start to fly!

#2 - A Welcome Homecoming

A ranch is a ranch and by any other name it would still be a ranch, whether it has ten acres or ten thousand acres. In The Cowboy’s Christmas Baby Natalie Clark feels right at home on Lucas Allen’s ranch as she slips into the role of housekeeper, cook, and jack of all trades easily. Lucas might not like the fact that she’s kept a big secret from him, but not one of the men on the ranch can cook or clean so he agrees to let Natalie stay — but just until the housekeeper, Hilda, recuperates from the fall she’d taken...

#3 - Daunting, But Comforting

There’s something about a cat dropping a mouse on your toes that sets the adrenaline to high gear. But then there’s something about a couple of sweet elderly ladies welcoming right into the ranch house that puts the feel of the mouse out of your mind. In The Cowboy’s Mail Order Bride, Emily Cooper is greeted by the ranch cat giving her an unwanted present and then by two elderly women, Clarice and Dotty, insisting that she stay for supper. Emily's only there to deliver a box of letters from her deceased grandfather to the woman that wrote them to him more than sixty years before. But twenty four hours later she has a job and there’s a cowboy in her life…this is both scary and sweet.

#4 - Loud And Rowdy

While ranches tend to be in rural areas, away from the hustle and bustle of city life, this doesn't always make for a quiet time. After all, ranches are full of animals and people that can create quite the clatter. Annie Rose can certainly attest to this. Awakening to the noisy squeals of two little girls and the stomping on a wooden porch makes for a loud first impression. In How to Marry a Cowboy, Annie Rose is sleeping peacefully on the porch swing when suddenly it sounds like a longhorn cattle stampede has been turned loose on the porch. Then she looks up into the mesmerizing eyes of those little girls’ father, Mason Harper, and for a few minutes everything goes quiet. The eyes, as she’s found out from an abusive ex boyfriend, do not lie, and Mason’s show both distrust and concern at the same time. The noise starts again as the little girls declare that she is their new mama…and the mother of all headaches hits Annie Rose right between her eyes.

Review - How to Marry a Cowboy:

Ms. Brown has the amazing talent to make everyday people larger than life and they always steal my breath away. In this book Mason Harper and his adorable twins stole my heart faster than I even realized, One minute I was reading the first page and the next minute I was head over heels in love with the rancher and his daughters. There's just something about a book that leaves you smiling days after reading it that you can't help but recommend it to family and friends, which is exactly what I've been doing with this one. I have to say I've always had a soft spot for baby goats so there was no way I wasn't going to enjoy their adventures. There's no superheroes, no over-the-top plot twists and turns this is just a fabulous, feel-good story that can make any day just a little bit better and after all can't we all use that?

  1. Good morning, everyone! Y'all ready to visit? Got questions. Mason, Annie Rose and the girls are with me and we'll be here all day so ask away. But first I have a question...would you like to live on a ranch?
