4/5 Review: When A Beta Roars by Eve Langlais

Hayder has met his mate. Just one problem. She's allergic to cats.

How degrading. Stuck babysitting a woman because his alpha said so. As Pride Beta, he has better things to do with his time, like washing his impressive mane, hunting down thugs for fun, and chasing tail--sometimes his own if his lion is feeling playful.

But his babysitting job takes an unexpected turn when the woman he's assigned guard duty over turns out to be his mate.

A female threatened by an outside wolf pack.

A woman he wants to call his own.

A mate who doesn't fall for his charm.

Usually Beta's leave the roaring to the Pride's alpha, but in this case given his level of frustration, he might have to make an exception. And if anyone doesn't like it, they can kiss his furry tail.

Rawr!

**********

I really loved When A Beta Roars and the connection between Hayder and Arabella . Both characters are upstanding, genuine individuals with high moral values. This allows them to use better judgment and connect both physically and emotionally. As a couple, they made me swoon. Additionally, the supporting characters add depth to the rich story. Luna and Leo were a perfect addition to the story.

The story was good, it was fast paced with a bit of a twist and kept me interested right through the read. We meet some of Hayder's pack who are fun (and maybe a little weird!!) and Arabella brother who I could happily throttle!
Luna and Leo are a real couple of characters and I'm looking forward to their stories!!

Another fun quick read by Eve Langlais. Lots of humor and just an overall great basic read. Ms. Langlais. is consistent with her style of writing and comes up with another winner. I like that the story ends and gives you a hint about the next book. Well worth the time. If you are looking for a short quick read this is the book for you.

5/5 Review: Dragonbane by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Out of all the mysterious boarders who call Sanctuary home, no one is more antisocial or withdrawn than Maxis Drago. But then, it's hard to blend in with the modern world when you have a fifty foot wingspan.
Centuries ago, he was cursed by an enemy who swore to see him fall. An enemy who took everything from him and left him forever secluded.
But Fate is a bitch, with a wicked sense of humor. And when she throws old enemies together and threatens the wife he thought had died centuries ago, he comes back with a vengeance. Modern day New Orleans has become a battleground for the oldest of evils. And two dragons will hold the line, or go down in flames, in Dragonbane, the next explosive Dark-Hunter novel from #1 New York Timesbestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon.

**********

We return to Sanctuary where we meet the dragon Maxis Drago and his Amazon life mate Seraphina, whom he hasn’t seen in a couple of hundred years due to her humiliating him in front of her Queen. This book starts off with plenty of action that doesn't stop until the last page. The world building unfolds with the perfect spacing - not too much information revealed at once, nor too little. The Dark Hunters are immortal warriors with a terrible curse hanging over their heads. Max is a dragon that was cursed long ago and has had to live without his life mate.

You've have to love a hunky Alpha male who knows how to wield his weapon and is the perfect balance of dominance and sweet. You ALSO have to love a strong, independent woman who knows that she messed  up. Max and Sera are both loyal to the bone, making them the perfect fighting force against the evil that threatens all their lives.

I was so invested in the outcome of Max and Sera struggles, it was almost hard to breathe as things became more complicated and the happily-ever-after seemed further out of reach. Sherrilyn Kenyon knows how to write characters you will root for with just the right amount of tension to make the ending a true triumph. Everything about these characters were different  including the villain, who happened to be the Amazon Queen.New characters, lots of interaction with ones we've already met. New mysteries added to the wealth of intrigue already built up in previous books. This stands alone as a suspenseful drama, with heated romance, but it also is a part of a larger story arc with the other novels that slowly build up a gripping backstory and create a brand new mythic soap opera of ancient gods caught up in passions of love and hate.

Sherrylin's Dark hunter series is without a doubt one of the best series in the paranormal romance genre. You would think that a series that is 25+ books in there would be a lull in the story or that the writing might become repetitive but this could not be further from the truth with this series. As with all the dark hunter books this one will have you laughing and crying and holding your breath. Sherrylin is brilliant at creating a totally believable world where with each story things start to become clearer and ties start to form. My favorite parts of these books is when all the past characters come together and you remember why you fell in love with this series to start with.

4/5 Review: The Unlikely Lady by Valerie Bowman

FOR THE BACHELOR AND THE BLUESTOCKING…
Certain that no man wants a bluestocking for a wife, Miss Jane Lowndes is careful to wield her books and her spectacles as weapons against matrimony. Convincing her ambitious mama that she's content to stay a spinster is easier said than done, however. It's a good thing Jane is not above a bit of manufactured scandal if it will keep her from the altar, and the argumentative, contrary Lord Garrett Upton…

ROMANCE IS NEVER BY THE BOOK

With the war over, Garrett is determined to enjoy his bachelor's life while he can, even when it means attending a house party in celebration of a friend's wedding--and suffering Jane's notorious disdain. But when a masquerade ball leads to a mistaken kiss, he's surprised to learn that Jane's bookish exterior hides a truly passionate soul. When two such headstrong people are determined to remain unattached, can love lead to a happy ending?

**********

This is the third installment of the Playful Brides series.  It reads well enough on it's own - It's the first of the series that I have read.

Jane Lowndes only goal in life is to be a privileged spinster.  Although she is happy her best friends have found husbands she would be perfectly happy living alone with her books to keep her company, she has not intention on ever getting married.

Lord Upton (Garrett), is haunted by the time he spent at war.  In attempt to assuage some of his guilt he sent money to the widow of the man who saved his life, instead of bringing him some peace she wants Garrett for herself.

I found this book engaging and it made me smile from time to time.  The fine line between love and hate is walked between Jane and Garrett.  A day doesn't pass for them without an argument.  It's fun to have an historical romance that the heroine isn't a simpering maid but a strong, well spoken, woman.  That being said if you are a fan of historical romance - this one is definitely worth the time.  I myself, hope to find time in the near future to read the first two books in the series.

Guest Post: Men in Uniform by Sara Humphreys

Who loves a man in uniform? ME!!!  I also love a band of brothers and that’s why I simply had to write The McGuire Brothers series. These five sexy bros are all men in uniform and they are as devoted to each other as they are to their jobs.  When the guys introduced themselves to me (I know that sounds weird but that’s kind of how it feels when the characters come to life in my head) one of the first things they told me about themselves was which uniform they wore.

Gavin, the hero in Brave the Heat is the oldest and the fire chief in their hometown. Ronan, the second born, is a K9 officer in New York City and a die-hard ladies man. His longest relationship, outside of his family, is with his partner, a bloodhound named Bowser. Tristan is the middle son, and admitted bad-boy. A former Navy SEAL, he is now freelancing as a gun for hire and bodyguard. The twins, Finn and Dillon, are the youngest of the bunch. Finn is an armed first responder in Miami and Dillon is an Air Force pilot but is on leave due to PTSD.

What I love most about these heroes—and all men in uniform—is their unwavering commitment, fiercely protective nature, and a clear sense of right and wrong. They are devoted to family and their mission—whatever that may be. All uniforms are sexy, except for maybe the UPS or mailman gear. If you find a hot mailman or UPS guy…please share.

To celebrate the release of my McGuire Brother series, I’m here to count down my fave men in uniform from television and film:

1.       Eric Dane in The Last Ship: I am obsessed with this show right now and it’s mostly because of Commander Chandler. The character is unwavering in his devotion to his position, his crew, his family, and his country. I love it so much that I live tweet during the show. Join me on Sundays at 9pm EST. I’m @authorsara

2.       Channing Tatum in 21 Jump Street: I love a guy who isn’t afraid to be a total goofball. Good looking and funny? I’m yours.

3.       Russell Crowe in L.A. Confidential: Granted, Crowe’s character didn’t really wear a uniform but he did wear a badge. He might have taken some ethical liberties but it was all in the name of righting wrongs and getting the bad guys.

Gavin, and all of the McGuire brothers, wear their uniforms proudly and like most men in service, they are as devoted to their families as they are to their duties. I think it’s that quality which stands out above all the rest—devotion. Isn’t that what all of us want? We want to be loved, cherished, and protected and no one does that better than a man in uniform.

5/5 Review: Stripped with a Vampire by Jax Garren

In a world of dark spells and blood ties where no one is safe, love is the most powerful magic of all.

Shy vampire Charlie never intended to see Vince again after the bad boy human broke his heart. But when Vince turns up beaten and marked for sacrifice to an Aztec God, Charlie will do anything keep him safe.

Vince has never forgiven himself for the lie that ended things with Charlie. The spark between them is as hot as ever, and Vince would risk body and soul to make it a fire again. But as they hide deeper in Austin’s supernatural society—a world of lies, dark magic, and warring immortals—he finds the path to reconciliation more twisted than he’s ever imagined.

**********

Jax Garren’s Stripped with a Vampire is an epic book and a great start to a new series.  I had such a good time reading about Charlie and Vince.  I love how they both grew throughout this book and realized that the love they have is worth everything.  Vince and Charlie broke up 5 years ago because of lies made by a young Vince and feelings of not being worthy by Charlie.  They meet again when Vince is taken as a sacrifice for an Aztec god and runs to Charlie when he is able to escape.  As the battle wages between the CoVIn and the Liberi vampires Charlie realizes that he is more welcome and needed than he thought and Vince realizes that the time spent away from Charlie allowed him to grow into an adult that can stand by Charlie.  There is a lot of action and emotions in this book that keep it so interesting and worth reading that I recommend this book to anyone who loves romance and vampires and witches, oh my! I give this book 5 stars and if I could I would give it more.

4/5 Reviews: Lawless in Leather by Melanie Scott

SHE'S GOOD AT HER GAME.
Raina Easton never dreamed she'd end up playing ring master to a bunch of baseball cheerleaders. But when the New York Saints offers her a job to coach its new squad--the Fallen Angels--Raina can't refuse. As the owner of a burlesque club, she can certainly show the girls more than a few good moves. But as for her new boss? That is, as they say, a whole 'nother story. . .

AND HE'S GOT IT BAD.
Army veteran, biker, and all-around tough guy, Malachi Coulter isn't your typical sports-team owner. For one thing, he doesn't think cheerleaders belong on the baseball field. Another: he can't seem to separate business and pleasure when he meets his somewhat scandalous new employee. Seems the major-league bad boy has met his match in the gorgeous, feisty Raina. All's fair in love and baseball…could it be that, after all this time, Malachi is playing to win?

**********

This is the first book I've read by Melanie Scott and I have to say I really enjoyed it. It is the 3rd in the New York Saints series - but stands well on it's own.

Malachi Coulter is one of the owners of a baseball team called the New York Saints, and the head of security, he also owns his own security firm. He is appalled when he finds out his partners are hiring cheerleaders (BASEBALL DOESN'T HAVE CHEERLEADERS). But, his partners are doing anything they can to get fans back in the stadium.

One of his partner's has hired Reina Easton to pick and train the cheerleaders. Reina, was a Broadway dancer and now owns a burlesque club - she is taking the job seriously, she needs this job and the money that goes with it to keep her in business.

Although both Malachi and Reina are attracted to one another, neither acts on those feelings. But, when Reina starts receiving threats from a fan and her vehicle and clothing that they are thrown together more and more. Alex becomes more and more concerned as the incidents start moving from the stadium to the club.

I found the story enchanting and watching Reina and Mal deal with their own issues and learn to love each other was wonderful. The characters are strong and well developed, and the story pulls you in and makes you keep turning the pages.

If you are looking for a great romance with a bit of mystery thrown in - I highly recommend this one.

5/5 Review: The Viscount’s Wager by Ava March

You never forget your first love, but is a second chance worth the gamble?

As Anthony introduces Gabriel to the pleasures that can be found in the city—and in his bedchamber—their bond deepens into something more. **********

The Viscount’s Wager by Ava March is a book that loved reading.  Viscount Anthony Rawling is a man that knows what he wants, a love like the one his parent’s had, and is willing to fight to keep it.  He has had to deal with a learning disability since childhood and allows his feelings of being an idiot and inadequate to almost ruin the financial stability of his family’s inheritance.  Sir Gabriel has been in a loveless marriage for the past seven years and is dealing with the guilt of his wife’s passing.  He allows himself to get into trouble that puts both his and Anthony’s lives in danger.  Since Anthony and Gabriel shared a kiss as teenagers, Anthony has known that Gabriel was meant to his one, true love, was devastated by Gabriel’s betrayal.  When they meet again after Gabriel’s wife passes away Anthony could not deny the love that has always been and does what he can to be there for Gabriel.  This book is a must read!

4/5 Review: The Witch of Painted Sorrows by M. J. Rose

Possession. Power. Passion. New York Times bestselling novelist M. J. Rose creates her most provocative and magical spellbinder yet in this gothic novel set against the lavish spectacle of 1890s Belle Époque Paris.

Sandrine Salome flees New York for her grandmother’s Paris mansion to escape her dangerous husband, but what she finds there is even more menacing. The house, famous for its lavish art collection and elegant salons, is mysteriously closed up. Although her grandmother insists it’s dangerous for Sandrine to visit, she defies her and meets Julien Duplessi, a mesmerizing young architect. Together they explore the hidden night world of Paris, the forbidden occult underground and Sandrine’s deepest desires.
Among the bohemians and the demi-monde, Sandrine discovers her erotic nature as a lover and painter. Then darker influences threaten—her cold and cruel husband is tracking her down and something sinister is taking hold, changing Sandrine, altering her. She’s become possessed by La Lune: A witch, a legend, and a sixteenth-century courtesan, who opens up her life to a darkness that may become a gift or a curse.
This is Sandrine’s “wild night of the soul,” her odyssey in the magnificent city of Paris, of art, love, and witchery.

**********

This is the first book of the Daughters of La Lune series and is a great historical
paranormal romantic book.  I thought the book was well written with lots of emotions,
mostly sad, negative and haunting.

Sandrine is running from a bad situation from her husband and after the death of her
father she feels she needs to hide out with her grandmother in Paris.  Sandrine is ready to
break out of her shell and become more active even learning how to paint.

I love all the descriptions of Paris in the 1800's with the cafes, scenery and
especially how the women were acting and being treated.  La Lune is a powerful spirit
who has lots of things up her sleeves for Sandrine and it was exciting to see all that
happen. Julian was an interesting lover to Sandrine and you didn’t know if he was going
to tell the truth or keep with his hidden agenda. Great book and can't wait to read the
second in this series.

5/5 Review: Born of Defiance by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Born an Outcast, Talyn Batur has spent the whole of his life fighting against the prejudice of his people. An Andarion without a father is not something anyone wants to be.
But when his companion's brother draws him into a plot against the Andarion crown, he finds himself torn between the loyalty to their planetary government that his mother has beaten into him and his own beliefs of justice and right.
Now, he must decide for himself to remain a pawn of their government or to defy everything and everyone he's ever known to stand up to tyranny. It's a gamble that will either save his life or end it. And when old enemies align with new ones, it's more than just his own life at risk. And more than just his homeworld that will end should he fail, in Born of Defiance, the next League novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon.

**********

It seems like only yesterday when I read my first book from the legendary, Sherrilyn Kenyon.  She has never failed to keep her fans entertained, frustrated and happy all at the same time, an amazing author.

Born of Defiance has major Mr sexy aka Tayln Batur as our hero and the beautiful Felicity that is his soul mate.   Tayln has had to fight for everything he has in life, born to live such a hard life but he shows his true character by always being the honourable soldier.  He believes in his morals and will do everything he can to do the right thing.  He could easily have been a cold hearted thug but instead chose to cherish the love for his mother and vice versa to hold him firm to what matters most.  He has struggled through life and been content with what was given to him.  When Felicity enters his world that all changes.  Forever the solider with morals he now knows there is one person in this world that he would be willingly die for and he will do everything to protect her.  Felicity hasn't lived a glamorous life either but when she meets the sexy Talyn she believes her world is complete.  She has 100% faith in him and like him, she is willing to do anything for him.

I love their story, its a gentle love story that compels you to love everything about both of them.  I also loved the other characters that got to return, even for a few moments.  Born of Defiance allows us to go back in time and remember our old favourites.  We are allowed a few small glimpses of the "old crew" that satisfies your wishes but has you racing to the next page to see what happens next.  This book held surprises for everyone.  I was waiting for Tayln's father to come into the book and for questions to be answered but in true style we were greeted with more questions instead.

Born of Defiance is the 9th book in the League series and I can say without a doubt that she has yet again produced a wonderful story.  Although the book gives us a lot of questions, I have the faith in Sherrilyn that she will fill us in with the missing links in her next book, Betrayal that I cant wait to be released.  Do yourself a favour and grab this book today for an evening of soaking in the memorable story of Tayln and Felicity.

5/5 Review: The Bourbon Kings by J.R. Ward

For generations, the Bradford family has worn the mantle of kings of the bourbon capital of the world. Their sustained wealth has afforded them prestige and privilege—as well as a hard-won division of class on their sprawling estate, Easterly. Upstairs, a dynasty that by all appearances plays by the rules of good fortune and good taste. Downstairs, the staff who work tirelessly to maintain the impeccable Bradford facade. And never the twain shall meet.

For Lizzie King, Easterly’s head gardener, crossing that divide nearly ruined her life. Falling in love with Tulane, the prodigal son of the bourbon dynasty, was nothing that she intended or wanted—and their bitter breakup only served to prove her instincts were right. Now, after two years of staying away, Tulane is finally coming home again, and he is bringing the past with him. No one will be left unmarked: not Tulane’s beautiful and ruthless wife; not his older brother, whose bitterness and bad blood know no bounds; and especially not the ironfisted Bradford patriarch, a man with few morals, fewer scruples, and many, many terrible secrets.

As family tensions—professional and intimately private—ignite, Easterly and all its inhabitants are thrown into the grips of an irrevocable transformation, and only the cunning will survive.

**********

I love J.R. Ward and will read anything that she writes. I have read  Black Dagger Brotherhood & The Fallen Angels series several times. There is no doubt that she can tell one heck of a story. I actually read the book twice, reason being that it was hard to get into the first time, but I think that was because I am used to reading the Black Daggerhood Series. The second time I read it, I was able to appreciate  the Characters ,especially Lane. This book has the making of a night time soap opera such as Dynasty!!!  It has everything that makes a good book, Cheating husbands & wives, Injured heirs, Arranged marriages, Death, Lies, and when I say Lies, I do mean LIES!!! The Characters are spoiled, over-indulged, self-absorbed adults surrounded by incredible wealth. Like I said a Perfect Night Time Soap Opera.

If I  could give this book 10 stars, I would. I have anticipated the release of J.R. Ward's latest book for what seems like forever. I was not disappointed. I won't give a synopsis since others already have. I'll just say that I loved every minute I spent reading this novel and haven't stopped thinking about the characters all day. My only regret is that I finished it too fast the first time. This book was good, laughed, cried, goosebumps, sometimes I couldn’t put it down and other times I could. The thing I loved most about this book was the dynamics between the family . You know that feeling when you finish a book and want to know every single thing about the characters after the book finishes?  I loved the sappy stuff, I loved the bad times and the good times. I loved it all. Definitely will read this series!

5/5 Review: The Danger of Destiny by Leigh Evans

WHY WHISTLE IN THE DARK...
There are very few days off when you're on an epic quest. Believe me, I know. I'm Hedi Peacock-one half Fae, the other were-and if being a half-breed with one foot in each world isn't tough enough to manage, there are the four chambers of my heart to consider. The one who holds the strings? Robson Trowbridge, the Alpha of Creemore. If I had my way, he and I would be locked in a bedroom, for eternity, but a pressing family matter needs my attention. It's true what they say: A woman's work is never done.
WHEN YOU CAN HOWL AT THE MOON?
My twin brother is being held captive by the Old Mage in another realm. Lo and behold, as soon as Trowbridge and I arrive in Merenwyn, we're separated in spectacular, dramatic fashion-and I'm left to figure out how to maintain the fragile balance between my Fae magic and my wolf's blood in a realm that cries to both. Not easy, particularly when I'm keeping an iron-grip on my temper so as not to dispatch with extreme prejudice the odd wizard or smart-mouthed mutt servant who crosses my path. My mama never told me there'd be days like these, but I'm not going down without a fight...or my mate.

**********

I liked that even though this is the fourth book of the Mystwalker series I was able
to catch up and enjoy this book.  Hedi is such a strong person and willing to help her twin
brother, even though he might not deserve it. She needed to be strong to handle her
destiny, being part fae and part wolf and mate to Robson an alpha wolf.  Robson also is
on a rescue quest and they work together in a very tragic world.

I thought the book was well written with lots of twists and excitement. The details
were fantastic and I loved the detailed descriptions. This book was told from Hedi's point
of view which was different but it worked. Now I want to go back and read the series
from the start.
