Dead to Rights by Cate Masters

 Dead to Rights
Review by Desere Steenberg

Imagine waking up in a mental asylum with no memory of how you got there or any part of your life for that matter !  Yes I have heard about body snatching and also identity theft but imagine not only your life being stolen but your body too and you have no memory what so ever of what you were where you came from.

Dead to rights tells a beautifully written story of rediscovery ,really gorgeous heavenly angels and one woman determined to get her life back. But to do so she will have to fight off a kind of evil unlike you have ever read before.

The author totally blew my mind on this one. After reading it I actually had to sit back and just take a moment to come back down to earth.  I was completely entranced and could not put the book down,I simply had to know what happens next.

The author at all times kept me on a fast pace action packed rollercoaster and never once could I guess what was coming or who to look out for next. Each and every character was a mystery waiting to be read and discovered.

If you’re not a Cate Masters fan yet you have no idea what you’re missing. Go out and get it immediately I can guarantee you will not be sorry!

Jamais Vu by Monique O’Connor Jame

Jamais Vu

Review by Desere Steenberg

WOW WOW WOW ! This book was absolutely brilliant ! I have before reading heard that the very first sentence will amaze and entrance you so badly that not reading the book after that will just not be a possibility and I thought yeah right that is going to happen ,I have never read a book that the first sentence does it for me it is usually after about the first 5-6 pages that it only manages to grab my full attention. I could not have been more wrong

“ There is nothing easy about dying, not the act itself and certainly not coming back” is the opening sentence of this remarkable book. It tells the story of Darby who has a rather nice OK life going for her until she finds herself in the back of an ambulance staring at a man in light whispering “You will see them”. And then she gets sent back to earth !

Now I do not know about you but that to me would be downright scary and I for one would have no idea how to handle dying and then showing back up on earth alive with all these new and overwhelming thoughts. Not to mention a new found gift  that to some people might be more of a nightmare than a gift.

This book was such so emotional that it had me crying my eyes out ! It showed me a whole new side of the world of love, courage ,imagination and magic.

And seeing people die before it actually happens was so vividly written that I could picture it happening right in front of me ,the real trick off course being can Darby save them before it is too late?

The ending was a true touch of wonder .I recommend this book and author to any fan of reading!

Until then remember that someday you might come face to face with your own little touch of Jamais Vu.

Disenchanted by A.R. Miller

Disenchanted (Fey Creations)Reviewed by Desere Steenberg

Oh my word did I love this book! It had it all mystery, suspense, action, yes it sounds like I am talking about some big time police case but this one had a added something that just made it all come together so stunningly, really no lies this book was incredible and had me hanging on the edge of the page with every word.

The author, this was my very first book by the way but the really talented A.R. Miller, really knows how to suck you into a world of spectacular emotion.

It actually felt as if I was one of the characters inside, the author so vividly described the scenes ,the emotions and mystery behind this fabulous read that at one stage I actually as if I myself was Fay and trying to get behind the mystery. Yes that is truly how emotional and powerful this book was.

And with a truly shocking and very unexpected twist of a ending that leaves room for so many more possibilities what more can one ask for!

The author added her true own unique touch to each and every page, letting you get just that little bit more closes to the mystery being revealed and then pulling away just enough to let you know that stopping and closing the book is simply not an option ,and I will definitely be coming back for more.

I was truly "enchanted" by this stunning read !

Blood Lust Rising by Fayth Devlin

Blood Lust Rising (The Vampire Queen Trilogy)Review by Desere Steenberg

I am not really one for paranormal books but every so often I find one that makes me go darn that was good! Blood Lust Rising by the fabulous Fayth Devlin is one of those shelf keeper books.

From the very first page the author managed to grab and hold my interest. It involved action packed scenes and a passion between hero and heroine that was simply put stunning and beautifully written.
The characters were both strong, independent and each one came across as not only fascinating but truly memorable.

And the truly entertaining manner in which the author lays out the attraction between the hero and heroine was awesome. Neither  Ella nor Micah want to admit the passion between them but as the story unfolds we see them almost “trapped “ in a world of their own that neither one thought would be.

But they say with the help of others anyone and anything can be beaten no matter how dark it seems. And that is only one of the stunning messages this author carries across to the readers.

I loved this really fast action packed tale of passion, intrigue and to me just a little touch of mystery.

Read it in one sitting and I simply adored just adored the ending. Well done Fayth !

I recommend this one for everyone out there in the world of reading even if you’re not a fan of paranormal  this book will be the one to turn it around for you!

Chapter One
The dust had long ago ground its way into his skin. It was no longer an annoyance but part of his flesh, baked into the cells by the intense heat. Once, clouds might have blocked the sky but Sam didn’t remember a time like that. Those were just stories, told by the Boomers.
Sam stood in the middle of the back forty as the dust storm threatened. They needed to get back to the barracks and the safety of the fort before the storm finally decided it was coming for them like a vengeful god.
All the storms had been like that since before Sam could speak. That much, Sam did know.
His grip tightened on the saber in his right hand. The cool hilt was polished lead coated in gold. A saber made for slashing and quick cuts.
Today, it had drank heavily of blood. Not the blood of the enemy. The blood of a candidate who’d failed. Even now, the cuts on the unworthy plebe’s body were seeping into the dust. Calling to the carrion feeders circling high over head.
“I did my best,” the plebe rasped, his voice nearly gone from the harsh summer wind.
“Your best is not good enough. You did not pass.” Sam felt only a cold dispassion in passing judgement. Those who were unworthy, by even a single measure, were weak. And the weak brought down the entire formation.
Good soldiers died protecting the weak.
So there were no more weak. Sam made sure of it.
“One blow. You got in one blow. And only because I tripped!” The plebe scrambled to his feet, gripping his side as blood seeped between his clenched fingers.
“What if you trip in combat? Someone has to stop. Someone has to wait. You cannot trip. You must be flawless to be a Soldier. You are not worthy to wear our colors. Remove them before you leave the stadium.”
“Please. Sarn’t Brudhuil. I need this. My family. I’m the only hope for my family. I have a little girl. She needs surgery.”
Sam turned his cold gaze on the burgher. “How is this my problem? If it was this important, you should have trained harder.” His gaze flicked down the burgher’s battered body. “Burn the colors before you leave.”
He turned away, heading to the waiting formation of plebes who had passed the test. Who were graduates into the TRADOC program to become Soldiers. They were the strong.
But even they were not promised success. Success was earned. There was one standard. And the plebe at his back had not met it.
The plebe would never know how it tore at his soul to turn his back on him. How once he’d been weak and allowed one plebe ascension to the candidate ranks.
That mistake had cost him and his squad dearly. It was only the fact that Sam had been the one to discover the outbreak before it had spread that had save him.
He did not make the same mistake twice.
He met the gaze of the each of the successful candidates. Seven males, five females.
The dark skinned female’s eyes that spoke of Pacific heritage widened slightly.
Sam turned, raising his blade instantly as he dropped to a knee, warding off the plebe’s attempt to strike him with his back turned. A flick of his wrist and the blade sliced into the plebe’s chest, carving deep into sinew and bone.
The world had changed. There was no room for the weak.
And the plebe’s choice now meant that the little girl now needed a father in addition to surgery.

Now on to what everyone is waiting for.....The Interview!!

1.When did you start writing and what was the first thing you wrote?

Um how far back are we talking about? There are rumors that my mom still has my pretty awful Anne McCaffrey fan fiction notebooks floating around but we’ll just pretend those never happened and say that I started writing in 2007 when I went to Officer Candidate school.

2.Where do you get your ideas on what you write?

I write about soldiers because there’s inspiration around me all the time. I am a woman on active duty so cue conflict, you know? Plus, who else deserves a happily ever after than GIs. Especially after a decade at war, you know? I also like big quesiton books like the Hunger Games. It’s depressing to me to realize I will never write anything that truly awesome!

3.What are some hobbies or things you are into that you do when not writing?

I’m an active duty army officer, mom, housewife and writer. I have no hobbies J Kidding. I love a challenge so it appears that home improvement is something I enjoy as well as tinkering with website design (I’m not very good)

4.Have you ever been so engrossed in writing a book that you have gone out in public in your pajamas or slippers without realizing it?

Not without realizing it, but yes, I’ve done this. I try to remember to put a bra on first, at least. Wouldn’t want to scare any children.

5.Can you tell us about any challenges you met getting your first book published?

Oh ho! The stories they are legion. Let’s just say there are 2 pieces of advice that I’ve taken with marginal success: first be nice. Publishing is small and no matter how angry someone may make you, just smile and wave. The second, don’t query too early.

6.What has been the toughest criticism/best compliment given to you as an author?

The best compliment I’ve gotten is when someone says I can’t stop thinking about your book days later. That really means something to me, you know?

7. What is your favorite immortal?

Athena (I hope that’s what you meant).

8.Light or dark chocolate

Dark

9.Favorite color

Brown

10.Tea or coffee

Coffee! There is nothing else!

11. What is your current project and when is your next release?

My next release is tentatively scheduled for October of this year. It’s called UNTIL THERE WAS YOU and is about two active duty soldiers trying to put their pasts behind them and be willing to love one another.

12. Do you have any message to the readers?

Thank you. Honestly, I love what I do. Nothing makes me happier than getting reader email telling me that my book made them laugh or cry. That’s the best!

And that's it folks...I hoped you enjoyed the interview and getting a little inside info of the one and only Jessica Scott!

~~The Diplomats Daughter-by Liz Crowe~~

The Diplomats Daughter has firmly put Liz Crowe on The Diplomats Daughter has firmly put Liz Crowe on my TBR author list. She has a talent for being able to develop her characters really well within her short stories, and investing her readers in the outcome. The heroine, Vivian, is a spunky girl unwilling to repress her wild streak, and finds just the way to exercise her rebellious streak the size of Texas; in garnering a friendship with a son of one of her fathers servants. The hero, Levent, calls to my heart with his need to make himself better and worthy in the eyes of Vivian and especially Vivian's father.
The last person Vivian Kincaid expected to see when attending the University her father foisted her upon is the one person she thought never to see again, and was forbid by her father to associate with. Levent Deniz, the servant boy who made her childhood in Turkey bearable. Together they had run the streets and formed an unbreakable bond, only to be forced apart after his parents find out about their shenanigans when Levent is injured on their latest escapade.

As adults fate has seen to it that their paths shall meet up again. Unfortunately Vivian's father has decided her future for her, and is planning to marry her to a man of his choosing regardless of her wishes. Even though Levent has made himself a wealthy successful man Vivian's father cannot overcome his prejudice against the man he considers to be of a lower class, and he still will not give his blessing for Vivian and Levent to be together. Instead he tries to force Vivian into marriage with his chosen suitor.

Blue Cruise-by Liz Crowe

Goalie Interference by Emily Cale & Angela S Stone

One Night Stand, now there’s a thought. Well, many thoughts run thru my head when I think about this stellar collection of stories, but who’s counting? I won’t, you won’t because we both know every now and then, a little mystery mixed with pleasure won’t hurt anyone. And I for once, would love to have the help of 1 Night Stand service, wouldn’t you?

But if you’re a hockey player, will the game of mystery hurt you more or the puck will? Well, that’s what TJ and Scott will have to find out for themselves. Both star players within their own teams, TJ was set up by her friend Natalie for a 1 Night Stand, courtesy of Madame Eve’s dating service. Lacking a personal life and love life, Natalie feels that it’s her responsibility to keep TJ from being deprived of sexual pleasure, even though TJ is surrounded by men 8 hours a day.  Not to mention their displays of testosterone on and off the ice. But as one of the star goalie on the team, TJ feels she has something to prove, especially to show the team that she is one of the guys. Not an object to be gawked at or asked out due to her physical appearance.

So what about Scott? As the team captain, Scott takes his games very seriously, during game and practices. But there is a sore spot in Scott’s heart that only his closes friends would know. His exact words, he’s done with the puck bunnies due to this ex-girlfriend betrayal. But that didn’t stop his friends from setting him up on a blind date, to be exact a 1 night stand.  Hey! We all know boys will be boys, so with a little arm twisting, Scott found himself in front of the Castillo Montreal Resort. Now the game is on and it’s the battle of the sexes. CONTEST WITH AUTHOR LISA KESSLER

“He gave up his soul for a second chance to love her...” Love, such a powerful word with so much depth and dimension. But will love be enough for a man who’s been tortured by his own memories and existed only in the shadows of darkness? Debuting Night Walker, book one and introduction of the Night series by author Lisa Kessler. This is Miss Kessler first published book, and for a new book, it has stellar ratings and won her the 2012 San Diego Book Award.

What the critics said about Night Walker:

“Hot romance and cool characters make Night Walker an all-night read.”Kelley Armstrong, #1 NYT Best-Selling Author
A stellar first novel with heart-stopping suspense and a hero to die for.Angie Fox, New York Times bestselling author THE LAST OF THE DEMON SLAYERS
“Readers will sigh in dreamy acceptance of a love that never dies…”RT Book Review Magazine
“Briskly entertaining and romantically enticing, Night Walker captivated my attention as soon as I started the book…” Bitten By Love Reviews

Book Excerpt:

He gave up his soul for a second chance to love her…
Two and a half centuries ago, Calisto Terana lost everything when a zealous priest murdered the woman he loved. Now, desperate for another chance to love her, he wants redemption for the mistake that cost her life.
She’s haunted by dreams of her own death…
After catching her fiance with another woman, Kate Bradley returns to San Diego to clear her head. The last thing she needs is romance, but after meeting Calisto she’s drawn to him in ways she doesn’t understand.
They’ve waited in the shadows for centuries…
Calisto has no doubt Kate is the reincarnation of his lost love, but the Fraternidad Del Fuego Santo has a new watcher with dark ambitions of his own. As old enemies reemerge and a new threat arises, the betrayal that enslaved Calisto to the night might destroy the only woman he’s ever loved again.

So, what do you think so far? Great book isn’t it. BBL had the pleasure of reviewing this book and we feel in love with Miss Kessler shortly afterward. Once you read on, you’ll see how strong and sweet Calisto is. He’s the hopeless romantic that you want to take home to mama, the one that you can always rely on, hold you when you cry, stand up to you when you throw your tantrum, but more importantly, he’s a man of honor. I for one, anxious for book 2 of the Night series to come out, the series is so refreshing and differ from most other books I’ve read. If you don’t have Lisa Kessler on your TBR list, I recommend you do.

And for anyone who haven’t heard of Lisa, here’s your chance to win her book. CONTEST IS OPEN TO INTERNATIONAL READERS, MUST BE BBL FOLLOWER, AND PLEASE LEAVE YOUR EMAIL. The Warden's Lantern by Joselyn Vaugh

This short story starts with Barbara, an accountant for Elmer's company that studies storm and weather data, searching for a ghost story legend of a disembodied lantern seen swinging in the dark by an abandoned prison.  Barbara almost gets run over by Elmer on his motorcycle and when he stops to warn her of the bad weather to come. The two get stuck by felled trees and missing keys.  They are forced to take shelter in the abandoned prison and and have some sweet moments trying to warm up in their drenched clothes.

They see a light that Elmer tries to explain away with data, but Barbara isn't convinced.  The pair eventually make it back to Elmer's house where they warm up in a beautiful setting of a cozy fireplace, and Barbara wearing Elmer's pajamas, to do some more research.  Even though Elmer tries to be the gentlemen, Barbara takes it to mean that he isn't interested in her. She doesn't think that Elmer will ever notice her as more than an employee but she has brought an adventurous side in Elmer that he thought he'd lost and an adventurous side of herself that she never knew she had.

I enjoyed reading Joselyn Vaughn's story,  you can tell that she has a great imagination and loves writing.  Joselyn also has a fun blog at http://www.joselynvaugh.wordpress.com/ where she talks about her family, running, projects and writing.  You can also read excerpts from her books there and she also tells what songs inspire her books, which I thought was really interesting.

Now she has taken over the Heavens with her Angels of the Dark series, and oh baby she does it soooo well. *sigh* As always there is no shortage of hunky males, humor, action, and steam. The main characters, Zacheral *Angel Warrior* and Annabelle *Demon marked human* play off each other really well, and are just made for each other.

However the ruthlessness that makes him and his army so powerful has their Deity at his wits end. They kill any and all demons that may cross their path paying no heed to the human possessing the demon, not caring to try to save them. So Zacharel and his army are on their last chance and have one year to change their brutal ways or he and his army will fall.

That demon Lord has marked her as his and killed her parents, framing her for their murders, and has spent the last four years in a mental institution for the criminally insane where she has had to fight off the demons who were sent to torment her, as well as the advances forced on her by her own doctor.

When Zacharel and his army are sent to the institution to rid it of the demon hoard waiting to breach its walls he decides to find out why they are so intent upon the place. When one of the minions lead him to the woman shackled to a gurney, he finds himself unable to turn away from her plight and is cannot deny the emotions roiling through him he thought were long dead.

GRACEN MILLER CONTEST & INTERVIEW

Hell, a real place of torment, weeping, gnashing of teeth, fire, and brimstone. But have you been to hell on Earth? Espeically when you have a bunch of wack job hellhounds chasing after you?

Bitten By Love Reviews is proud to present, Road To Hell blog tour by author Gracen Miller. Y’all excited? I know I am. As you guys know, BBL have had the pleasure to review this wonderful series. And if you don't know what I'm talking about, go on to Amazon and check this great author out. I promise you won't be disappointed. Or...you can follow this tour and rack up all the goodies, including the GRAND PRIZE, courtesy of the author and host by TSK TSK What To Read!!!!

So, let's get this show on the road people. But first, here's a glimpse of how Road to Hell series came about. It all started from a nightmare Gracen had, starring the Winchester brothers and a demon/ghost going after her kids. She particularly loves  nightmares because they kickstart her muse (Dom) into creative spurts of genius! Gracen was demon hunting with Sam and Dean Winchester. What Supernatural fan doesn’t love that dream, right? That’s more like a fantasy come to life! So, the boys were at her house trying to save her from getting eaten by a ghost, which turned into a demon. You know how dreams are, the parameters change randomly and it makes total sense in the dream! In the beginning of the dream, she was in an unrecognizable house and by the end of the dream in her current one. And this made total sense! she wasn’t too worried about the ghost/demon even though Sam and Dean kept telling her she should be. she kept reminding them that ghosts visited her all the time and she knew how to handle them. Easy-peasy stuff. They were soooo not needed, except for as eye-candy. Never turn away prime eye-candy, that’s her motto. ;-) Anyway, Dean was upset, calling her a stubborn chick…she doesn’t remember saying thanks to that quip, but she does remember taking it as a compliment! LOL

Furious and ready to kill the ghost/demon, she demanded directions from the Winchesters on how to annihilate this chump that endangered my babies! Dean was being snarky, calling her sweetheart and reminding her that she should let the professionals handle it. You know, she really didn’t like Dean-dream’s attitude! He was this close *demonstrates with forefinger and thumb pinched together* from receiving a Gibb’s head-smack!! He and her were going at it when she woke up. She came out of that nightmare furious, and it took her a few moments of blinking in the dark room to realize it was just a dream. Her kids were okay, slumbering across the hall in their beds. When that reality set in, she was a bit miffed about not getting the opportunity to kill the creature or smack Dean. She hates the way dreams end without any finality to them.

And that’s how the Road to Hell series was conceived. Gracen’s nightmare created characters that are so,real-to-life in her head she didn’t question their chatter any longer. She loves each of them as if they were my own children.  *Shaking my head and making a rotating sign with my finger next to my head while whispering....* It's okay if you think she's a bit coo coo *laughs*

                                      Some interesting facts about Gracen:

1)       Frist 3 books she wrote e-Pub were rejected by NY, said there weren’t any readership for this genre. We showed them that didn’t we. PNR romance is one of the top seller in the market as of right now.
2)       Sometimes when Gracen is too engrossed in writing, she’d walk in public without remembering to take a shower. So if you see her with a baseball cap on, you’d know why *laughs*
3)       Gracen has gotten a review by a reader who stated Road To Hell series was better than JR Ward – Brotherhood series. Talk about being stoked, she was on cloud nine with that comment.
4)       Best compliment on her sex scene was that she writes “thigh-burner” sex scenes, and this was approved by the reader’s husband *laughs* I wonder if he turned into 50 shadeds of red.
5)       And this woman doesn’t blush that easily. Gracen has never been blushed writing any of her books.
6)       When we asked her what’s her favorite position, this is what she said. “Whew, what a personal question! With the guys who take center-stage in my head…I like it when Nix ties me down and Micah is a god at doggie style. With my real-life husband…standing up in the shower is pretty damn amazing. =D
7)       As for fun, we asked if she prefers Ice or Strawberries, she said ice. There’s nothing better than to see the man on fire, melting the ice right on your tongue. And she wants bodyshots off of Chris Hemsworth, Jensen Ackles, or Johnny Depp.
8)       Lastly, when we ask if there’s anything she’d want to say to our readers, this is the convo took place in front of my eyes. Gracen: Come join me on the Road to Hell! It’s a wildly, wicked ride you won’t regret. *cheeky grin*
Micah: *nudges Gracen aside* Lame response, Gracen. I say…Sin like you’re drunk on Micah Kool-Aid. *sinful grin* Addiction is only a sip away. *winks* And once you join us on the Road to Hell, I’ll show you a wicked time in Hell and on earth.

Where you can stalk Gracen—not really!— but she would love to meet and interact with you.

Review: Night Walker by Lisa Kessler

Night Walker, what are they, who are they, will we ever know for sure? Calisto Terana was condemned to an eternity living in the shadows. Surviving on human essence of life, the blood lust became his only mean to exist and allowed him to walk this earth. Despair couldn’t begin to describe the turmoil Calisto had suffered. But he had no illusion of who and what he had become, a Nigh Walker. The most fearful creature to ever walked the earth. Due to a prophecy, Calisto had forsaken all that he’d know and sacrificed his very life, for the day he reunite with his beloved.

Kate Bradley, once a joyful woman, sweet smile, and a voice of a bird, was left days before her wedding. Distraught and lonely, Kate headed back home to where she grew up, a place filled with beautiful memories and love. But coming home doesn’t mean her life will be as she once left behind. Sinister shadows are lurking in the dark and both of them has their eyes set on Kate. It is now up to Kate to decide which is the lesser of two evil, and will she loses her heart in the process.

Briskly entertaining and romantically enticing, Night Walker captivated my attention as soon as I started the book. I see a lot of potential in this new author, she knows how to incorporate love and deceit in a moment’s time. Her hero and heroine were solidly formed and the sparks between them magnified as the story progressed. I would definitely recommend this book to all my fellow readers as this book should be on everyone’s TBR list. Can’t wait for the next book in this series!!!
